         Saskatchewan Provincial News

July 2010

These two articles were written by our Past Provincial Directors Stan & Elaine Iles to commemorate the 10th Anniversary of how the Chapter was formed.

How did it Happen ?????

One bright spring day in 1998 “The Iles” drove to Moose Jaw to an open house at DJ’s RV the Saskatchewan Nemar Dealer. (with no thoughts of buying a new motor home)

Well you guessed it, we looked at a Mountain Aire that was on display after a little while asked to have one ordered in with some changes.

We took delivery in July and were interested in the Newmar Kountry Klub that was promoted in the delivery paper package. We sent in our application and became members and then registered for a Region 9 Rally to be held in Drumheller Alberta, July 23 to 25th.  While we were at this Rally the Regional Directors, Dave & Betty Sloane asked us if we would let our name stand for Provincial Directors for Saskatchewan, after some thought we said that we would and a few weeks later were notified by Dave Wilson (International Director) of our appointment.

Then it was time to try to start a local chapter. We collected names of Newmar owners and got on the phone. After many calls it appeared that there was interest so we called a meeting at our home May 16/2000 and we decided that the interest was there so we started making reservations for camp ground, catered food and all the necessary arrangements required.

As no one else had committed to join or help we consulted each other as to how it should be run and a few phone calls to our Regional Directors in BC.

The date was set and registrations mailed, now just wait for them to come in with some commitment and cash, and that is what we did, wait and wait and wait checked the mail when it came but no registrations. So we made a few phone calls and were assured by some that they were coming but hadn’t mailed their forms in yet. One of the couples that had said they were coming mentioned that her husband liked to be involved and I said great we will mark him in for cooking pancakes (this couple are now your Provincial Directors) finally registrations started to come and a week before the rally we had four registered. (2 were our Region Directors and our selves) Dave our RD phoned and said are you going ahead? My response was we may as well the money is committed anyway.

A friend that was a International Member had commitments that weekend but said they would come to the meeting and join to have the required 6 members to start a chapter. Then we received a late registration and that was the required 6. The day before the rally Dave & Betty RD stopped at the dealer in Moose Jaw and met an Alberta couple traveling thru and invited them to join us and they said sure they would.

Well Rally day is here so we are out at camp greeting folks as they arrived. About mid afternoon a Newmar with Washington plates pulled in and we followed them to their site to ask if they were here for the rally and they didn’t know there was one, so down on the knees we went and they said sure they would join us. So the following day we had our meeting and were off to a start, The Klub name was picked and the Saskatchewan Prairie Lily’s took sprout. For the rest of the story see the pamphlet “The Prairie Lily Buds and Grows.

( that is our story and we are sticking to it,  Stan & Elaine Iles)

March 2009

Greetings from sunny Arizona.  The weather is getting quite warm…time to think about heading home.

We have had a busy winter.  Cliff has been carving and turning bowls on the wood lathe. I’ve done some sewing.  In between time we have met with several Newmar members for a visit.  There are a number of Newmar snowbirds that stay in Yuma or pass through.  It is so nice to see anyone that stops.

We have been doing some work on our Rally.  It is in Riverhurst, Sask on June 16 –19, 2009.  It will be a Prairie Luau.  Mark your calendar and come for some fun and surprises.  There will be a pot luck breakfast on Wednesday morning.  Also we will have a contest for the best Hawaiian costume as well as a “tacky tourist” category.  There will likely be a few surprises included.  See the poster on the web site for more information, or call June Bickner @ 306-582-4912 or May Carey 306-582-2098.

We wish all a Happy St. Patrick’s Day on March 17.  A big welcome to SPRING.

Best wishes to all celebrating a birthday or anniversary.  Sincere condolences to those who have lost someone near and dear to them.  A speedy recovery to anyone not feeling well.

Hope to see many of you in Riverhurst in June.

October 2008

Fall has arrived!  The trees all dressed in their finest colors, - sometimes, lately, even sparkles.

The Saskatchewan Prairie Lily Christmas Party was held on September 26.  We met in Moose Jaw at Nick’s Bar and Grill.  It’s a great place to meet as we have a separate room.  Eleven couples, including Lorne and Marlene Pearson, and Gordon and Elaine Mackenzie from Alberta.  (We hope you enjoyed it).  After dinner we had a short meeting to  elect a new Vice –President.  The executive for 2009 is:     President couple – Barry and June Bickner     Secretary/Treasurer couple – Murray and Twila Cain     Vice-President couple – Alvin and Lavern Karst  Thank you all for accepting these positions.

After the meeting we had our traditional gift exchange.  It always creates a few laughs and the snowman made a few rounds.

The 2009 Sask Provincial/Sask Prairie Lily Rally is set for June 16 – 19, 2009 at the Riverhurst Campground.  The theme this year is “Prairie Luau” – so get your Hawaiian gear ready and plan to attend.  We have a few surprises in store.

Cliff and I are in the process of packing up to head for warmer weather.  When the water line freezes it’s time to move on.

We will be in Nappanee on October 16 for a couple weeks, then we will head for Yuma. We can be reached via e-mail: carey_cm@hotmail.com  or 558 - 5707 E 32nd Street, Yuma, Arizona, 85365. Phone 928-314-0975 after Nov 3rd.

We hope you have a great Thanksgiving – we all have sooooo much to be thankful for.

Beware of the witches and goblins.  Best wishes to all those celebrating birthdays or anniversaries.  We wish a speedy recovery to anyone with health issues, and sincere condolences to those who have lost someone dear and close to them.

IT’S NOT WHAT YOU GATHER, BUT WHAT YOU SCATTER THAT TELLS WHAT KIND OF LIFE YOU HAVE LIVED!
