July 2010

“Living At Its Best” – This is the theme for our rally this September 10th to 13th at the Eagle Wind RV Park in Aldergrove B.C. Details of the rally can be found in the Region 9 section of the klub web site. The rally will be a combined “BC Provincial & Dogwood Lower Mainland Klub Rally”. Further information can be obtained by calling or e-mailing us.  We expect this to be an extremely popular rally this year due to its proximity to Vancouver and the RV park is brand new and has excellent facilities to accommodate us.  Traveland RV Supercentre has once again shown their support for the klub by hosting our spring meeting and provided us with a great lunch as well. Thirty Two people attended the meeting and there was much accomplished and some great discussions took place. One item of particular note is the fact that most of the members asked for more klub activities to be planned. The meeting was held in conjunction with our spring rally held at Fort Langley RV Park. Eleven coaches were at this rally which by all accounts was a great success. The weather was simply outstanding and a great time was had by everyone.

No one believes seniors . . . everyone thinks they are senile. An elderly couple were celebrating their sixtieth anniversary. The couple had married as childhood sweethearts and had moved back to their old neighborhood after they retired and stopped full-timing. Holding hands, they walked back to their old school. It was not locked, so they entered, and found the old desk they'd shared, where Andy had carved 'I love you, Sally.' On their way back home, a bag of money fell out of an armored car, practically landing at their feet. Sally quickly picked it up and, not sure what to do with it, they took it home. There, she counted the money--fifty-thousand dollars! Andy said, 'We've got to give it back.' Sally said, 'Finders keepers.' She put the money back in the bag and hid it in their attic. The next day, two police officers were canvassing the neighborhood looking for the money, and knocked on their door. 'Pardon me, did either of you find a bag that fell out of an armored car yesterday?' Sally said, 'No'. Andy said, 'She's lying. She hid it up in the attic. Sally said, 'Don't believe him, he's getting senile' The agents turned to Andy and began to question him. One said: 'Tell us the story from the beginning.' Andy said, 'Well, when Sally and I were walking home from school yesterday.... ' The first police officer turned to his partner and said, 'We're outta here."

The conventional wisdom is that good friendships enhance an individual's sense of happiness and overall well-being. But a number of solid studies support the notion that strong social supports improve a woman’s prospects for good health and longevity. Conversely, it has been shown that loneliness and lack of social supports are linked to an increased risk of heart disease, viral infections, and cancer as well as higher mortality rates. Two female researchers have even termed friendship networks a “behavioral vaccine” that protects health and mental health.  Perhaps one could consider going to a Newmar rally as a behavioral vaccine.  It fits the requirements of having good friendships develop and there is certainly a great amount of social networking going on at all rallies. There would be no better time than now to attend the finest rally the country has to offer and that is the Newmar Kountry Klub’s “Coming Home! 25th Anniversary Rally” being held August 14-21 at the Elkhart County Fairgrounds. It sure seems like a win-win situation. Speaking of behavioral vaccine, please check out the list of local rallies and sign up for your medicine today.

The planning for the B.C. Dogwood – Lower Mainland rally is well under way. This year’s theme is “Living At Its Best”. It promises to be one of the best rallies ever.  More info will be coming to the members soon.  Why not get a great long dose of “behavioral vaccine” and join Joanne & I in attending all three of the B.C. Dogwood rallies.

Sept 7th to 10th –Interior Klub @ NK’Mip RV in Osoyoos.

Sept 10th to 13th –BC Provincial & Lower Mainland Klub @ Eagle Wind RV Park in Aldergrove.

Sept 16th to 19th – Region 9 & Islanders Klub @ Vantreight’s Farm near Victoria.

March 2010

It seems from reports we have received that everyone seems to be experiencing very unusual weather patterns this past winter.  Rain when it is suppose to be sunshine, cold when it’s suppose to be hot and the list goes on.  One only needs to see the reports from the Vancouver 2010 Olympics to see that it is the warmest winter on record in almost 100 years. Snow had to be trucked and flown by helicopter to the mountains to be able to hold some of the Olympic events. They claim it’s an El-Niño year.  Let’s hope that this El-Nino fellow gets the hint and makes things right for next winter for all of us. Our spring rally is set for May 14th to 16th at the Fort Camping in Fort Langley. As this is an un-hosted rally everyone must make their own reservations prior to April 14th by calling the park directly at 604-888-3678 and quote reservation #G36403. The fall rally will be a combined B.C Provincial and Dogwood Lower Mainland rally with the dates to be Sept 10th to 13th. The Interior rally is just prior to this and the Island rally is just after which makes for a great road trip to catch all 3 rallies. Check the NKK web site for more details of each rally.

March 2009

Hello everyone,

I am trying to be positive but with the news constantly talking about depression sometimes we get worried but let’s look on the bright side. Hopefully you all still own your motor home, so let’s get together and enjoy each others company.

Its difficult to plan with so many of you away missing all the snow we have been enjoying, anyway, that having been said Gwen and I plan to camp at Fort Langley Campsite  on the weekend of May 8th 9th and 10th.   ( 9451 Glover Road , Langley . Phone 604 888 3678. Toll free 1 866 267 3878). The same location as last year.  We invite as many of you as possible to join us.  At this time we do not have any activities planned but that can happen nearer the date.   Just a fun get-together to get to know each other better.

We have booked the Hope Valley Campground in Hope for the BC. Dogwood Lower Mainland Klub yearly Rally for the 10th,11th, 12th and 13th September. By the way the 13th September is Grandparents Day so come and celebrate. You do not have to be a Grandparent to celebrate.  We will share more details nearer the date.

So, until we meet again – take care and drive safe.

December 2008

Its Christmas time.  We love it and look forward to celebrating with our family and friends as much as possible in the weeks to come.

I believe most of the Lower Mainland Klub committee is down south enjoying the sunshine but for those of you who, like us, are staying home for the holiday I trust you have remembered to winterize your motor home. One year I forgot to drain my water heater and it cost me a new one, so take care.

We enjoyed our camping this past year with several new members attending each time. Those who came really had a good time and we all look forward to seeing each other again next season hoping we will get even more members out to each function. Make the effort – you won’t regret it.

Make a New Year resolution to attend all the Klub activities.

Keep in mind please, that we are open to – and welcome – any suggestions you may have to improve or add to the enjoyment.

We wish you all a very Happy Christmas and a prosperous New Year.

October 2008

Hello  RV’ers. It’s that time of year again. Yes, it’s the time the leaves start to turn that beautiful color of autumn while all the squirrels are busy collecting their winter’s food supply. It won’t be too long before the ghosts and goblins will fill the city streets for the one day a year when we can all enjoy the candy our grandkids are able to give up. But more importantly it’s that time of year when it’s high time to head to the South and be one of those snowbirds.  I, for one, feel this is a great year to be a snowbird and support the US economy as much as I can. Our friends to the South are certainly going through some hard times and we wish them all the best.

Our fall rally was a huge success. This year it was held in beautiful Fort Langley and although our attendance was down, we were still able to pull off one of the best times I have ever experienced at a rally. The great food and entertainment was only exceeded by the company of our fellow RV’ers who attended. A great big Thank You to all those who attended and to all the volunteers who made this such a great event. Also a huge thank you to Traveland for the incredible steak dinner they put together for us all and the limo rides to get there provided by Gentleman Jim and Willie (our new members).    We are well into the planning stages for next year’s rally which has a tentative date of September 10-12th and will be held at the Hope Valley Campground in Hope, BC. Watch your e-mails for more information on this event which will be hosted by Brian & Carol Anderson. If you have any suggestions for next years rally, please contact Brian at mcanderrson@dccnet.com.

Anyone wishing to attend a spring get- together for the Klub, please let me know.

As you may know, the executives from last year have all agreed to stay on for another year. V.P. are Dave and Joanne Killey, Sec/Treasurer are Brian and Carol Anderson and our past president’s are Harold and Carol Drobott.

Our Klub is only as good as its members. Please support the Klub by renewing your membership. Renewal forms are in the mail now along with the Fall newsletter and minutes of the AGM which was held at the rally.

Thanks to Dave and Joanne for putting this newsletter together as we are finally moving and retiring as of Wednesday 30th September. It’s been a long time coming.

August 2008

For those of you who did not attend our Fort Langley weekend campout in May – you missed a very pleasant get-together. The weather was very kind to us. We had six R.V’s. plus a number of day visitors during the three days we were there.  Carol served up an excellent spaghetti dinner which we all thoroughly enjoyed. Thanks Carol.

Your executive met and decided to hold our September rally at Fort Langley camp ground, 9451 Glover Road. The date for the rally has been changed to September 8th, 9th and 10th. This is the Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday following the Interior rally so hopefully many of you will just drive straight down to the Lower Mainland Rally thus saving gas. The rally fee is $160.00 for two people plus RV. $130.00 for one person plus RV. Extra persons per RV. $30.00 each.  This rally fee includes 3 nights with full hookups, welcome party, one continental breakfast, one steak dinner with all the trimmings, one potluck dinner (always great) and entertainment.

Fort Langley offers many attractions, one being the Old Fort, Antique stores galore,

Golf course and much much more.

Reservations deadline is August 20th 2008. Please send reservation and disclaimer forms with cheque to Brian Anderson, 8017 Modesto Drive, North Delta,BC. V4C 4A9. Cheques are to be made payable to Newmar Kountry Klub, BC Lower Mainland.

Looking forward to seeing you all and have a very safe summer.
