August 23rd we attended the celebration of life services in Quesnel for Ernie Sales.
Ernie & Anne Sales have been long time members of our Interior Klub, attending as many
rallies as they could. Not only have we lost a special member in the klub as you could always
find him pitching in whenever and wherever help was needed, but to many of us he was our friend. We know you were planning to attend the rally in Sicamous and you are so missed.
Anne you are always in our thoughts, and prayers. We all have such great memories of all the good times we enjoyed together.
In lieu of flowers, our klub has made a donation to the Quesnel hospital Palliative Care unit.
It was our 4th annual Interior Klub rally. The date was September 5th; the place was the KOA in Sicamous. Prior to our rally many members put in many hours and no one more then Dona Guertin who spent hours making a quilt to donate to our rally fund. This quilt went on the road so other members of the entire klub could have the same opportunity to win this beautiful monogrammed quilt. Johanna Jager also put her talent to work and designed not one but 3 silk floral arrangements for our raffle. Ladies we salute you. The lucky winners were Rayne Jacobson, Judy Griffiths and Bill Kruper.
The quilt raffle will take place at the Midtown Luncheon Oct.25
Thursday’s evening barbecue ended with a chance to try a dessert (some of us have never tried before), the Gelato ice cream was “um um good.”
The evening entertainment “Carol’s Comedy Special, was special.” Carol Penno cast our very own members to take on a few roles in her very funny skits. They all did a phenomenal job we hope to see them again at future rallies. This was followed by “Whose Line Is It Anyway's?” Joe Bridge, & Gary Giles took the mike to handle the sounds as the story for Noah (Graham Caines) & Mrs. Noah (Carol Penno) were getting ready to build & board the ark. I cannot begin to spell the names they gave themselves, and their sons. They did however pick some very hard animals to imitate, and it comes to mind one of the animals was a Kangaroo, which had them stumped but somebody from the audience yells out “boing, boing”.
They did a wonderful job and put the word “fun” in our rally. You are great sports. We ended the evening around the campfire. Speaking of campfires we owe a debt of gratitude to Dave Killey, Joe Bridge & Perry Jacobson who provided the fire wood for our rally.
After an early morning coffee in the common area we departed for the Eagle River Golf course where those members who enjoy a friendly game of golf and those members who prefer a fun game of Bocci “teed off” at 2:00pm. We gathered at the clubhouse for our prize presentations, by Bocci team leaders Joanne Killey & Dona Guertin and Golf team leader Perry Jacobson. The Beef Supper at the Eagle River Golf Club was sponsored by George Stayberg, Midtown RV, Penticton. “Thank you George” for continuing to support our rally. Another evening ended around the campfire (prematurely), just as we are about to draw door prizes, mother nature decided to put a damper on this and down came the “rain” and “home went the campers. We just had a couple of Newmar members from New Jersey come over to join our campfire. It was a big disappointment that we did not get the opportunity to introduce them to our members.
The theme of this rally was “a little bit country with Pa & Ma Kettle on the farm.” The tournament teams consisted of the Hatfield’s, the Kettles, the McCoy’s, and the Wright’s. Just as we were about to start cowboy golf (some know this as Arizona golf) darts, and the pool tournament, mother nature stepped in again & again it started to rain but our hardy members stayed tough, it didn’t take too long before the sun smiled on us again. In order not to offend anyone ( I am kidding) we announced our winners in order of last team to first and they all left with some maybe questionable prizes they may want to trade off somewhere, someplace, somehow. Since the rain delay put pressure on free time, we had to hasten away to the Burner for Supper. We had a great meal, we give Pam Martin and staff high praise for the supper menu, their great attitude and the fun we enjoyed. She is a great sport and a pleasure to do business with; according to member feedback many will stop by when in the area. We had the kitchen staff pick the winners of the Ma & Pa Kettle hat contest, which was won by Perry & Rayne Jacobson. We had another category named by the kitchen staff the most unusual Pa & Ma Kettle won by Dave Killey & Dona Guertin. I couldn’t begin to describe their hats, but everyone had a funny story to tell. Frank had the most expensive hat, and a great story to tell as did Sigi’s whose hat was also very expensive. You had to be there, to hear their stories. Graham & Anne Caines went home with the prize for the members who traveled the farthest to attend the rally. They will stay warm & cozy in their Newmar Blankets.
When all the men first arrived at the rally, we gave them each a little gift wrapped box. They were to pick a time during the rally to give this gift box to their spouses and secretly record their responses. This led us to the theme “Whose Line Is It Anyway's Part 2
With the ladies permission we read out their remarks (they were good, and they were funny.)
Thanks ladies little did you know how much humor your responses added to our rally.
Sunday morning we drew for two door prizes, both Sirius Satellite Radios were won by Joanne Killey & Nuala Wilson. Before closing we need to acknowledge our Provincial Director Gary Giles, he is always first in line to give us all a helping hand. We seem to have given him the role of official photographer as he does it so well. Of course everyone is also excited when he shows up as we all tend to use his internet service. Thanks Gary.
On Sunday morning we enjoyed a subway breakfast & coffee then had to say “Sayonara.”
In closing we are deeply grateful to the following companies & friends who contributed
some of the prizes for our rally.
Finning Power Systems (Terry Cochrane): Golf balls, the hats, the binoculars, the gloves, the thermal mugs.
Eagle River Golf Course: Golf balls
Western Star Truck (Dan Moser): Sirius Satellite Radio
Freightliner of Kelowna (Mark Jones): Sirius Satellite Radio, and hats.
Howard & Gail Langdon Calgary: the black carry- all pouches, golf tees & board games
Thanks “Eveyone” we couldn’t have done it without you.
