Ohio State and Chapter News

Ohio – October 2008

Hello to all Ohio Newmar Kountry Klub members.  We are the new State Directors.  We hope that you will understand that both of us are still working and it will not be possible for us to attend all campouts of both chapters, but we will make every effort to attend as many as we can.  We hope that you will find our enthusiasm for camping contagious and attend one or both of the chapters' campouts throughout the year.

We have picked dates and a site for our State Rally next year.  We decided to keep it close to our home this first time to make it easier for us to set up all of the activities.  The dates are June 3-7, 2009.  The campground is Frontier Campground (under new ownership) in Waynesville OH.  This is directly off route 42 and is Southeast of Dayton.  Please put this on your calendar now and plan to help us make our first State Rally a great time.

The Buckeye Kountry Travelers just held their September rally.  Due to the cancellation of our State Rally for 2008 and not having enough time to plan a joint rally, the Buckeye’s invited the Cardinal Kountry Klub to join in.  We had 16 Buckeye rigs and 4 Cardinal rigs present and had a great time.  We had golf, shopping, Fried Bologna sandwiches (world famous at a tavern in Waldo, OH), a Fish Fry at the Elks Lodge, campfire and lots of hollering going on in the clubhouse from those crazy people playing right, left and in the middle.

Our chapters have been busy setting up their schedules for next year and if you see an open date, we hope that you will jump in and offer to host.  We have always said that the host only needs to find a campground and a couple places to eat dinner and doughnuts would be good for a breakfast at least one day.  You do not need to plan activities as both groups will come up with something to do if there is nothing planned.  If you have never hosted now is the time.  If it has been a year or more since you hosted, it is time to volunteer again.  So please look at the open dates below and pick one to host.  Call a friend in the chapter and plan it together.

Cardinal Schedule

May 1, 2, 3 – Pier-Lon Park, Medina, OH

Jun 26, 27, 28 – Cutty’s Sunset Park, Louisville, OH

Sep – open

Buckeye Schedule

May 15, 16, 17 – open

Jul 10, 11, 12 – Little Farm on the River, Rising Sun, IN

Sep 11, 12, 13 – open

See you at a campout soon.

Happy Trails,

Ohio Cardinal  Kountry  Klub  #63

August brought much excitement for the young and old of the Cardinal KK. Nineteen grandchildren were registered to camp with their grandparents. WOW!   Early arrivals on Thursday (including Grandmas) enjoyed supper at the Lynway Restaurant in Ashland. We just have to remember the way.

Evenings were a little warm for a campfire, but nonetheless it was lit. Maybe the mosquitoes would leave.   Friday was just as beautiful with the remaining members arriving and setting up. Diana and Tom Teeters from Alliance were guests for the weekend.  We hope they will plan to join with us regularly.

Busy girls and boys shyly reintroduced themselves and enjoyed making many new friends. Many anticipated the challenging games from last year. Some were remembered. New games became more competitive with water balloons and sponge relays. Others found time to fish and swim in the park’s pool. A shuttle bus would help.

All the grandchildren had time to stop by the craft tables and design a smore character (no, not to eat), and paint picture frame flowers with vibrant colored markers. Some came back a second time. Many activities were enjoyed with tasty treats awarded both days.

The BEST is always LAST. The dazzling Pinata was unveiled and all were blindfolded to take a turn at knocking it down or apart. Harry Carroll enjoyed adjusting the length of the piñata so it was just right for each grandchild (short or tall) to take aim to break! Candy for everyone was collected.

Pie iron meals, smores around the fire at night, eggs in a bag and biscuits, donuts and bagels cooked for breakfast were some of the delicacies enjoyed over the weekend. But NONE surpassed the surprise anniversary cake and flower arrangements for two special couples celebrating their 50th Wedding Anniversaries this month, Jane and Jerry Hirschman and Liz and Byron Stofira.

PS:    Hope Ann Kurtz continues to heal and is back with us soon.
