Kentucky State and Chapter News

Kentucky - October 2008

Bluegrass Kountry Roamers wish to extend our deepest sympathy to Jim and Judy Ploesser due to the loss of Jim’s mother, Mrs. LaVerne Ploesser. Mrs. Ploesser passed away on Monday, October 6. Our thoughts and prayers reach out to Jim and Judy at this time.
With our 2008 rally season behind us, we want to thank all the Chapter Officers for their work on behalf of all members and look forward to the 2009 season for BKR Chapter Rallies. We welcome Jim Morgan, new Chapter Vice president. All our members should be on the lookout for other RV families traveling in a Newmar unit and, with an application in hand, invite them to attend one of our rallies. Glad to have Jerry and Holle Custer rejoin and take part in the September and October rallies.
With the change in locations for the September rally, the Cincinnati location proved to be a good decision by rally hosts, Mike and Marilyn McEvoy. We have looked for a rally in the Northern Kentucky area since our chapter was formed. Oak Creek Campground has recently been expanded and improved with new level sites. Our rally hosts provided a great welcome dinner with two busy days to follow. We carpooled to the Cincinnati Museum Center at the old Union Railroad Terminal. We enjoyed the IMAX theater movie Up the Amazon River, and after lunch we toured the History and Science Museum, all in Union Terminal. Before dinner, we visited Greyhound Tavern and the Cathedral Basilica with 82 stained glass windows, both in Covington. On Saturday we enjoyed a lunch cruise on the Ohio River aboard the Cincinnati Bell followed by tour of the Newport Aquarium. Afterwards, dinner at another great restaurant, Pompilio’s.

After a two week break, our members traveled to Paintsville Lake State Park for another great rally in the mountains of Kentucky. Rally hosts, Wayne & Joy Adkins and Jack & Pat Gallaher had a Fish Fry that included frog legs, very good. After dinner, we were entertained with real mountain bluegrass music by the Bluegrass Travelers from Haysi, Virginia. On Thursday, we carpooled across highway 23 to The Breaks Interstate Park where we had lunch at the Lodge while looking
across the Grand Canyon of the South. Too bad we were there a week or two before the leaves would be at peak color. Then there were two days at The Apple Festival in downtown Paintsville followed with dinner on Saturday night. Thanks to our hosts for another fine rally to end our rally season.

Time for snowbirds to prepare for traveling south for the winter. Betty and I are planning to host another Florida Cookout at Piney Point in February for all Bluegrass Kountry Roamers wintering in Florida.
Next April we will celebrate our 10 Year Anniversary for our Chapter back where it all started at Elkhorn Campground. This is an important time for our group and hope ALL our BKR members are there. We will discuss it more at the Florida Cookout and pass further information to our members later.
Happy and Safe travels to All,
Don and Betty Nethery

Kentucky - September 2008

The Region 6 Rally hosted by Jim and Judy Ploesser was well attended and was enjoyed by all. Thank You, Jim and Judy for another fine rally. We were honored to have the Miller families join us for the Haystack Dinner on Wednesday evening. And a big Thank You to Irv and Vicky Kaufman for joining us and sponsoring the meal.
Our Bluegrass Kountry Roamers were well represented with Fred, Rose and Mary Rose Conti, Jim and Barb Morgan, June Peacock and Hank Willman, Ralph and Phyllis Scott, Don and Ina Sekol, and Don and Betty Nethery. On Tuesday evening we were saddened to hear about the loss of Betty Bradley, sister of Ralph Scott and owner of Summitt RV in Ashland, Kentucky and a BKR member. Our thoughts and prayers reach out to the family.
Please continue to keep other BKR members in your prayers, especially Buddie Cox as he continues treatments.
As the fall season approaches, we are looking forward to our September Rally in Northern Kentucky with a visit to the Newport Aquarium and some activities in Cincinnati, Ohio, hosted by Mike and Marilyn McEvoy, September 11 - 14.
Our last rally for the year will be on October 1 – 5, at Paintsville Lake State Park Campground, hosted by Wayne and Joy Adkins and Jack and Pat Gallaher. This rally is timed for the Fall Apple Festival in Paintsville and for the fall colors to be near their peak. We are scheduled to arrive on Wednesday for a welcome dinner and carpool to Breaks of Interstate Park on Thursday for lunch. Breaks of Interstate Park is said to be the Grand Canyon of the South. Friday and Saturday will be busy days with all the activities of the Apple Festival in downtown Paintsville.
We look forward to both these rallies being well attended; the locations were picked to minimize travel distance for some members and give everyone an opportunity to take in a fall festival at a time to enjoy the fall colors.
There is no Christmas Party scheduled for this year. Several of our members will be in Florida for the winter. Betty and I do plan to host another Florida Cookout at Piney Point in February of next year. We hope to see most of our members at the two upcoming rallies in Kentucky and the Snowbirds in Florida.
Happy and Safe Travels to All,
Don and Betty Nethery #4411
