September Tennessee State Director's Message

WELCOME BACK LINDA !!!!!!!!

Our final rally as State Directors was well attended and everyone enjoyed fine food provided by the Carriage House and Miss Lily's. This was truly a 5 pound rally. For once we had a Newmar rally without torrential rain and we actually were wishing for rain to cool us. Temperatures were 10 degrees above normal and it was very hot and humid but we all enjoyed the cooler off site tours.

The year-round 58 degrees in the Tuckaleechee caverns were much appreciated and the new Titanic Museum was cool in temperature and content. One room of the museum was devoted to a large iceberg and vats of water at 28 degrees which was what the passengers of the ship faced. Fishing and tubing were other day activities enjoyed by several-especially those with grand children attending. No one in the group was interested in flying via the zip lines. Our nightly entertainment was unique and very informative.

Our Region 5 Directors have been hard at work for several months putting the final touches on their second Region 5 rally. James Island County Park is a beautiful place and a short drive to outstanding restauants in Charleston,SC. Be there September 28-October 2 and join in the fun.

The summer chapter rally has been postponed due to the flooding in Nashville. Our year-end,no-host,and most popular rally will be October 28-30 at Spring Lake Park in Crossville. This is a great park with a huge game room with a full kitchen and a recently completed enclosed back porch with a giant grill. If you are in the area or on your way to your Winter home come join us for great food, fellowship, games,nd campfires. For more details contact us or any chapter member.

For 2011 the following rally dates are reserved at Spring Lake in Crossville: May 2-7 and Oct 17-22. Details will be on our web site voluteerkruiserscom.

This will be our last year as State Directors. We have been chapter officers or State Directors for the past 7 years and feel it is time for new management. We cannot adequately express our appreciation for the support we have always received from our chapter members who have been readily available to host, chop food for meals, wash dishes, serve as officers, man the web site, and "swab the deck" when needed. Many heartfelt thanks to all of you.

If you are interested in the postion of State Director please contact us or our Region 5 Directors. The reward is multifold.

Safe travels to all,
Dale and Sara Brown

July Tennessee State Director's Message

Kudos to Doxie and Barbara Frayser for hosting our fun-filled first rally of 2010. Many members and no fish participated in a fishing rodeo that provided lots of Kodak moments and laughs. Apparently catfish do not consider licorice to be the gourmet treat a fishing expert promised. In between storms several found their way to the yarn shop, the cheese store, or the sustainability fair. The tech session was well attended and very informative. As usual, the food was outstanding. Thanks to the Budds for providing Piedmontese beef from their Quiet Breeze Farm and to the Raglands for the rally kick-off breakfast. Mexican Train was the favorite of several members who-sometimes loudly-played and laughed their way on and off the train for hours.

As this is written plans are finalized for the State Rally June 22-25. The caterers have delicious menus planned and we are anticipating good reviews for the variety of entertainment. A retired park ranger and author who was involved in search and rescue for downed aircraft and lost persons, a dulcimer shop owner and performer, and a member of the Sugarlands ranger staff are on the evening schedule. More on the day activities and those who braved the zip lines in the next issue.

A warm welcome to our newest chapter members, Burt and Jean Miller, who reside in the Gardens in Crossville. We are glad to have you join our group and look forward to sharing meals, games and campfires with you.

If you are attending the International Rally remember to volunteer. It's a great way to meet new friends.

Please remember those who are recovering from or struggling with health issues. Phyllis Lunn is making progress after surgery and Claire McCallister is dealing with a serious problem.

Until we meet again, have safe travels,

Dale & Sara Brown (9132)
