Greetings! from the NC Tarheel Kountry Klub Chapter…

Since this is the first article of the year, I would like to take this opportunity to say “Hello.”, “Happy New Year”, “Welcome to 2012” and “Have you procured that heart shaped box of chocolates for your favorite valentine?”

The NC Tarheels and the SC Palmetto Pals chapters went out with a bang by putting on a joint “Christmas at the Beach” rally in Myrtle Beach, SC during the month of December. I would like to take this opportunity to thank our rally co-hosts, Roger and Peggy Weeks for putting on such a great rally. There were 18 units and 38 people in attendance. The rally was so well liked that we’re doing it again in 2012 with new co-hosts, BL and Billie Coleman along with Gene and Suzanne Failmezger. Also in attendance was Santa’s “Miss Good Elf” to help facilitate our gift exchange. Thank you…Sadie Lee Stewart!

During the rally we held our final business meeting for the year. The Tarheel Chapter will be sending a donation to the Konnection Magazine in support of keeping the magazine in print. The election of officers was held and the current 2011 officers were re-elected for the 2012 year. Our officers are: Deborah Riley as Treasurer, Dennis Ward as Secretary, Philip Melvin as Vice-President and Sheryn Ward as President. My thanks to the team for all their support during the year.

Just a heads up on our next scheduled rally so that you can mark your calendars. Our rally hosts Al & Jan Brown along with JC & Meldonna Britt will be hosting a Tarheel rally June 7th – 10th. More information will be forthcoming. It sound like fun since the timing of this rally will be during the “Leaf and String Festival” in Galax, Virginia.

Immediately after the writing of this article, we’ll be off to Florida in search of warmer surroundings. The Tampa Supershow happens in January, so more information will be coming in our next article and newsletter. Final reminders… Be sure that your chapter membership renewals and your Konnection magazine subscriptions are paid so that you can continue to keep in touch with your fellow RVers.

Rallies, Rallies and more Rallies !
At the writing of this article we are just back from one of the most fun rallies we’ve ever been to. We were cordially invited to attend a Virginia Wheels rally and we are so glad that we accepted. Three coaches from the NC Tarheel chapter attended the rally with the Virginia Wheels. This group is a fun group and they are so friendly and welcoming. We all had a great time, and yes, there was food !

Previously, in one of my previous articles I referred to the Virginia folks as “our neighbors to the north”. It appears that some of them took exception to that phrase. They prefer to be known as “our southern friends” who just happen to live in Virginia (which is physically located north of North Carolina). So I promised to print a retraction and here it is. The Virginia Wheels are our southern friends who just happen to live north of North Carolina, but they are still located south of the Mason-Dixon line.
So, now on to our upcoming rallies. As you are reading this now would be a good time to take out your pencil and walk towards your calendar. We have so many rallies coming up and we wouldn’t want you to miss any of them. The next rally is the Region 5 gathering at the Cape Hatteras RV Resort in Waves, NC. The dates are Oct 9th – 13th and even though at this reading you have missed the cutoff, you might check with our Directors to see if they have any space left.
The next rally will be the Virginia Wheels 20th Anniversary rally in Luray, VA on Oct 17th – 20th. This is their chapter’s 20th anniversary and the Wheels have graciously extended another invitation for the Tarheel Chapter to join them in their celebration. In addition to this invitation, we have received an invitation to join the Georgia Peach State Krackers on November 15th – 18th at the Coastal Georgia RV Resort in Brunswick, GA. Contact information for these upcoming rallies can be found in the NKK Calendar of Events.
Finally, don’t forget to mark your calendars for the joint NC Tarheel and SC Palmetto Pals December “Christmas at the Beach Rally”. This rally will be a joint effort between the Palmetto Pals and the Tarheel Chapters and will be the last get together for each of the chapters for the calendar year 2011. The Weeks’ and the Wards are currently working on getting the details ironed out. The location will be the same as last year, at Ocean Lakes Campground in Myrtle Beach, SC. And the dates are Dec. 8th- 11th. Your hosts are Roger & Peggy Weeks and Dennis & Sheryn Ward. Additionally, since this will be the last rally of the calendar year, please plan to attend so that you can participate in the chapter business meetings held at the rally. We will be voting on new officers for the calendar year 2012 and we hope to see a lot of hands raised to volunteer.

One final reminder. As we are currently in the final months of our recruiting efforts for getting new members to join our group, we want to let you know that the membership fee has been reduced for the remainder of the year. Please contact any of the chapter officers to see what a great deal we are willing to make to get your neighbors to join us. Just so you know, Denny and I survived the 140mph winds in July, the earthquake in August and we’re now looking towards the hurricane. So, keep you heads down and we’ll see you next time.

August Message from theTarheels Chapter

As this article is being written, I’m realizing that when it’s read it will already be August. Where has the summer gone? If you’re lucky enough to live in the south, there are several days left to enjoy the warm temperatures and to look forward to the next rally. This year the NC Tarheel Chapter members were lucky enough to be invited to attend an upcoming rally with the Virginia Wheels chapter. I’m really looking forward to that one and I know I’ll enjoy meeting and just hanging out with our “neighbors to the north”. Hopefully most of you will have already sent in your registration sheet because I think this is going to be a fun one.

After that rally, we have the Region 5 rally to look forward to. Our Region 5 Directors, Bob & Bonnie Krieger, have announced the rally dates as Oct. 9th through Oct. 13th at the Cape Hatteras Resort at the outer banks of North Carolina. Previous Region 5 rallies have always been great fun and I expect that this one will be as well.

And finally, don’t forget to block out the dates of Dec. 8th – 11th for our joint rally with the South Carolina Palmetto Pals at Ocean Lakes in Myrtle Beach.

Now on a more personal note, I’d like to take this opportunity to thank the Georgia State Directors, Art and Margaret Angell, for taking the time to stop over and visit at the Ward’s campground. They were on their way to the International rally in Vermont and Shelby, North Carolina just happened to be on their way. Thanks so much for your hospitality and let’s do it again anytime.
