January Georgia State Director's Message

It’s hard to believe that the New Year is already a month old! The holidays are over; all of us were given a clean slate for 2012 upon which to write our New Year’s Resolutions and make plans for the year. Hope your plans include lots of new travel destinations and attendance at some (or all!) of the Special Events planned for the Newmar Kountry Klub this year.

By the time you read this, the Tamps RV Super Show will be history. We had a large group of attendees from the GA Peach State Krackers and a good time was had by all! We have an all new slate of officers for the PSKs for 2012 with Ken Johnson as President, Gary Smith as Vice-President and Mary Ann Johnson as Secy-Treas. I know all of them will do a good job and will appreciate your support in their efforts to grow the chapter.

Most of you are already settled in your winter locations in warmer climates and are eagerly looking forward to attending rallies as the weather gets warmer.

Remember to renew your subscription for the Kountry Klub Konnection magazine as soon as possible. I’m sure all of your are aware that without the print copy of the Konnection we won’t have the internet edition. It is a great way to keep up with what’s happening in the Klub and with all the special events that are being planned.

Speaking of special events, did you check out the trip to Australia planned for 2013? What an awesome trip! Details were sent out in the internet version of the Happenings in late December and the print version is elsewhere in this magazine. Since this article had to be written by January 1st, there may not be any spaces left by now! Check it out….QUICK!!

Art and I want to take this opportunity to tell everybody how much we have enjoyed our term as Georgia State Directors for the past three years. We have made so many lasting friendships and we look forward to seeing all of you at a rally down the road! Again, we hope your New Year is filled with laughter and love, blessings from above, good health and prosperity!

Safe travels!

October Georgia State Director's Message

As this article is being written, the East Coast is still reeling from the impact of Hurricane Irene and dealing with the aftermath of the worst hurricane to hit our shores in recent years. Our prayers continue to be with those who lost family members and friends in the hurricane and for those people who have sustained extensive property damage.

As you know by now, the Region 5 rally scheduled for the Outer Banks in October had to be cancelled due to damage from the hurricane. Rallies can be rescheduled and "things" replaced, but people cannot. Thankful that all of us have survived the hurricane.

With fall approaching and with the promise of cooler weather, we are looking forward to seeing all of you at the Georgia State Rally, which will be held November 15-18th at the beautiful Coastal GA RV Resort in Brunswick, GA. We have lots of fun things planned and lots of optional things for you to do in the area. We are combining our rally with the Full Timers' Roving Rally and we are excited about being able to interact and fellowship with them. If you're headed to Florida for the winter, this would be an excellent stop-over location! Remember that this will be a "BUDDY" rally, so you can bring your friends who own an RV other than a Newmar. Details on the rally are elsewhere in the KONNECTION, so check it out! Deadline for registration is October 15th, 2011. You still have time to get your reservation in, if you HURRY!!

The Georgia Peach State Krackers chapter will hold our annual Christmas luncheon/business meeting on December 8, 2011. We invite all of you to join us if you are in the area at that time. Please contact Jim Repp, Chapter President for more information about the luncheon. We always have great food and great fellowship (and ice cream!!) at all our meetings!

Please remember to encourage your chapter members to subscribe to the KONNECTION...without the printed edition, we won't have the online edition. We all need to encourage new owners to join the Kountry Klub and have fun traveling with us!

Any questions and/or comments should be send to us at the numbers and/or email address below.

Until we meet again, may your troubles be less, your blessings be more and nothing but happiness walk through your door!

Happy trails,
-Margaret and Art Angell #14133-L

February Georgia Peach State Krackers Chapter Message

As we look back on 2011, it has been a great year for the Peach State Krackers. Our membership has grown from 29 to 32, largely due to the efforts of our outgoing President and Sec/Treasurer, Jim and Annabel Repp. They have generously served for the past 3 years, and we have all benefited from their leadership. Thanks, Jim and Annabel, for your devoted efforts to the PSK!

Our last PSK event of 2011 was a very successful Christmas party and rally. We had 6 rigs that camped at River Forks Campground in Gainesville, just Northeast of Atlanta. On Wednesday, we checked out the Jaemor Farms Market, where we had lunch and shopped for veggies, jams, jellies, etc. Wednesday evening we enjoyed dinner at Lorretta’s Country Kitchen and then the Lake Lanier Island Magical Nights of Lights, which were pretty spectacular. On Thursday, for our Christmas dinner and business meeting at Provino’s Italian Restaurant in Cumming, we had 24 members in attendance. The food was very good, the fellowship outstanding, and the business meeting short and efficient. Ken Johnson was elected President, Mary Ann Johnson Sec/Treasurer, and Gary Smith Vice President. It will be very difficult to fill the shoes of Jim and Annabel, but hopefully we are up to the challenge. We also voted to donate $100 to the Konnection Magazine, which some other clubs have done. After the business meeting was adjourned, we all went to the play “It’s a Wonderful Life” at the Cumming Theatre. A great time was had by all. After breakfast at IHOP Friday morning, we all headed back home for the holidays.

As we look forward to 2012 with anticipation, there are numerous NKK and PSK events to place on your calendar. There was the Supershow in Tampa January 10-15, which several of our members attended. Then we will be having our annual PSK Spring Rally. The Bray’s, assisted by the Richardson’s, will be the hosts; details will follow shortly. For the summer, we have now turned the summer luncheon into a summer rally. We need volunteers to host this event, as well as the Christmas dinner/rally. So PSK members, please check your schedule and see if you are available to help host one of these events. Meanwhile, the NKK 29th International Rally will be held June 25-30 in Gillette, Wyoming this year. Stay tuned to the Konnection Magazine for details and registration We are planning an after rally in conjunction, probably in Cody, Wyoming. Once we have new State Directors in place, more details will follow.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank Margaret and Art Angell for serving the last 3 years as the Georgia State Directors. Thanks, Margaret and Art, for your devoted service to Newmar. We look forward to continuing to see you at NKK and PSK functions.

Thanks again to all of you for your participation and support of PSK, as we look forward to a successful year in 2012. Be safe and we will see you on the road soon.

Ken Johnson (16612)
President

October Georgia Peach State Krackers Chapter Message

The hot months of summer have past, now comes the beautiful Fall Season. Most areas of North America are currently at the height of the color, for some it is yet to come, for others it’s already gone. Soon, the holidays will be upon us. Thanksgiving is but a few weeks away. Despite all our challenges, we have much too be thankful for.

Our Summer Luncheon Rally, hosted by Ken & MaryAnn Johnson, was held at Yesterday’s Café in downtown Greensboro, Georgia on Monday August 22nd. We had 19 people (9 member units, plus one alumni guest) attend. Most of the members elected to join the hosts at Old Salem Campground for 4 days of fellowship, sightseeing, relaxation, fun and eating (what we do best). Our 2011 Summer Luncheon Rally with Camping was an overwhelming success. Thank you Ken & MaryAnn

We are pleased to welcome John & JoAnne Milliken from Buckhead, GA. and Cecil & Lovena Mallory from Greensboro, GA. to the Peach State Krackers. Both attended our Summer Luncheon Rally.

Hopefully by the time you read this, the Region 5 Rally will have been rescheduled. Don’t forget the Georgia State Rally Nov 17th -20th in Brunswick, GA.

Our Christmas Luncheon will be held in Jefferson, GA on Thursday, Dec 8th. Plan to attend this very important rally. Our Officers for 2012 will be elected at this meeting. We are looking into having camping available, as we did with the Summer Luncheon.

Start the New Year off right by attending The Tampa Super Show with your Newmar friends, January 10th – 15th.

On behalf of the Peach State Krackers, I wish you a wonderful, Thanksgiving Holiday.

Jim Repp
Chapter President

2011 PSK PRE-RALLY REPORT
Also known as the “Choo - Choo” Rally

The PSK Pre-Rally, was a success. Three units, the Hardings, Hutchins & Repps, left Monday, May 30th. Days 1 & 2 were driving days, with an overnight stop in Virginia. We arrived in Ronks, PA late Tuesday. These first days were uneventful, except for the Harding’s refrigerator, which went out the day we left. While inconvenient, this didn’t stop them.

We spent Wed & Thurs sightseeing, eating at wonderful Amish Restaurants, and attending the Sight & Sound Theater where we saw “Joseph”. What a wonderful experience. The Harding’s refrigerator was finally replaced, an expensive fix.

Fri & Sat, we were on the road again, with an overnight stop in Vermont. We arrived late at Beaver Hollow Campground in Ossipee, NH, our Pre-Rally destination. Accommodations were adequate, but far short of what we previously enjoy. In fact, we only stayed 5 nights, instead of the planned 7 nights.

What the campground lacked, the surrounding countryside and activities made up for. The White Mountains & lakes were beautiful. Sunday evening, we boarded the Café Lafayette Dinner Train for what was to be a delightful evening. We had reservations in the dome section of the dining car, probably 1940’s vintage. The meal was superb, elegantly served with linen table cloths, full assortment of silverware and fine china. The servers were terrific, wearing white gloves and formal attire. The entire experience was 1st Class, and something to remember. Cliff & Wynette have ridden on most of North America’s vintage trains, and said this was the best meal train ever. If you travel in that area, don’t miss this trip.

Monday, we took a nature cruise around Squam Lake, near Holderness, NH. This is the lake where “On Golden Pond” was filmed. During the 3 hour cruise, we saw an active Bald Eagles nest. The parents were gone, but we could easily see the heads of 3 young ones. We also spotted several Loons.

Tuesday, we had lunch at the Canterbury Shaker Village restaurant. Timing of the tour, did not fit our schedule. On Wednesday, we cruised Lake Winnipesaukee aboard one of the only active official US Mail boat carriers still running, The Sophie C.

Thursday, we left Beaver Hollow Campground, heading North 25 miles to Eastern Slope Camping Area in North Conway, were we spent the last 2 days. Friday we boarded the Conway Dinner Train for a very enjoyable ride and dinner. We sat in their 1890’s vintage dining car. The dinner was very good, not quite as nice as the previous train, but the car was wonderful. It had been restored in the 1990’s, to its original splendor. This was truly a joy to ride.

Saturday morning, June 11th, we left for the International Rally in Essex Junction, VT. For details of this rally, see my separate report. Overall we had a great time. Very little rain fell on our parade. Temperatures in New England early on, were cool with daytime highs in the 60’s & 70’s, 40’s & 50’s at night. Later in the week it warmed up considerably.

Saturday, June 18th, after the International, the three of us headed to the North Pole! The North Pole Campground that is, in the Adirondack Mountains, outside Lake Placid, NY. Saturday afternoon we visited the ski jump facility used in the Winter Olympic Games, played in Lake Placid. We took an aerial tram up the mountain, and then an elevator to the top of the ski jump. Sunday morning, we drove up Whiteface Mountain where visibility was over 90 miles that day. According to a guide, “this was as good as it gets”. That afternoon we boarded yet another train running between Lake Placid and Sarnac Lake. No meals were served, but is was a very scenic ride. Being Father’s day, Bill, Cliff and Jim rode free.

Monday we headed home. It took us 3 days to travel the 1,100 mile distance. Wish more of you could have joined us.

Three of our members, the Gary Smiths, Spilliards, and Jennes, had their own pre-rally, stopping in Nappanee, and the Niagara Falls area, before arriving at the International. All reports were they had a great time.

Jim & Annabell

2011 NKK INTERNATIONAL RALLY REPORT

While not the splendor of fall colors normally associated with New England, The Green Mountains of Vermont were a beautiful setting for the 26th NKK International Rally. Overall registration was only 189 units, but those attending had a good time anyway. I am proud to report that The Peach State Krackers had more chapter members there (10 units) than almost any other chapter. Attending were the Angells, Hardings, Hutchins, Jennes, Koonharts, Kriegers, Repps, G. Smiths, Spilliards, and Weeks.

Most of us arrived on Saturday, June 11th as “Early Arrivals”. On Sunday, many of us took the Spirit of Ethan Allen III luncheon cruise on Lake Champlain. It rained most of the time, but the food was pretty good and we had fun anyway. That evening we attended the Worship Service, with Mahlon Miller delivering the message. The Rally officially began at the Monday afternoon Opening Ceremonies. I was honored to be the MC of the Flag Ceremony again this year.

Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday we kept busy doing a variety of things including, but not limited to:
Attending classes, seminars, meetings, Dog Competition, Red Hat Tea, and area tours
Visiting new 2012 units, vendors, suppliers, and old friends from all across the US and Canada
Shopping at the Newmar Parts Store, Kountry Klub Merchandise store, Craft/Hobby Show, and local stores
Having service performed by Newmar Factory personnel, and other vendors
Playing Bingo, and other games
Continental Breakfast every morning, dinner Tuesday and Friday nights, and an Ice Cream Social
Entertainment Monday, Tuesday, and Friday nights

As would be expected, the PSK group got together several nights for ice cream at Friendly’s Restaurant, as well as dinner at Ray’s Sea Food Restaurant. Eating is always a BIG priority at Rallies.

The Essex Junction facility is perfect for a NKK Rally. The weather was somewhat co-operative, with rain on and off the first few days, and then clearing. It was announced that the next NKK International Rally would be held in Gillette Wyoming June 25-30, 2012. Mark your calendar today.

The following information was given out at one or more of the following, First Timers Meeting, State/Provincial Directors and Chapter Meeting, and during the Closing Ceremonies.
There are currently 2,360 NKK Members including dealers.
There are 1,113 subscribers to the Konnection. Advertising revenue is up, and it is currently self sustaining.
Current production is gradually improving with about 15 units produced weekly, occasionally jumping to 20.
More than 50% of production is in gas models.
Current production of luxury units is 2 units per week compared to only 2 in the entire first 6 months of 2009.
New 2012 coaches are now on the line.
All 5th Wheel units for 2012 remain the same as 2011. A complete market evaluation of all models will take place within the next 6 months, with changes coming in the 2013 line.
Communications have and will continue to be improved. Current lines of communication include the NKK Website, Newmar website, Konnection magazine, Happenings monthly e-mail, and IRV2 forum. Be sure NKK has your current mailing address and e-mail address.

Our new International Directors, Jim & Wilma Weeks did an outstanding job hosting their first International Rally. A great big THANKS to them, as well as the Regional Directors and the many volunteers that make these rallies possible.

See ya along the road,

Jim & Annabell
