September Alabama State Director's Message

In my last article I reported that Howard Kohser, Dixie Aires Chapter President, continued his slow recovery from neck surgery that occurred in April. Unfortunately I have an update on Howard’s condition from his wife Gail on other significant, serious medical problems being experienced by Howard. Let me just indicate that the prognosis of Howard’s condition is not positive. I ask that everyone keep the Kohser family, especially Howard, in your prayers. Gail requested that if anyone is interested in purchasing a gas Mountain Aire motor home to contact her direct for all the details.

Marge and I spent 8 days in North Carolina, Surf City, with our two daughters and their families in mid July, and will have attended our fourteenth International Rally in August by the time you read this article. I will report on the Alabama participation at the International and some of the events and activities in the October/November issue of the Konnections Magazine.

The Dixie Aires Chapter has no rallies scheduled for the remainder of 2010 unless someone steps forward to host or co-host a rally in October, November or December. Marge and I, as Alabama State Directors, will be happy to assist or co-host with anyone who would like to sponsor a rally or dinner during those months. Please contact us and not the Kohser’s since we will have access to the state and Dixie Aires Newmar Kountry Klub funds and property.

Just a quick reminder that it appears that there will be no NKK Chapter or State Officers in Alabama in 2011 unless some couples volunteer to assume the positions. Please let our Region Five Directors, Bob and Bonnie Krieger, know if you are interested in volunteering to serve at the Chapter or State level in 2011.

July Alabama State Director's Message

The State and Dixie Aires Chapter held a combined rally on 6 through 9 May in Foley, Alabama. Although we only had five units attend the rally the weather was great, no rain, and all had an outstanding time. The rally was “laid-back” giving everyone an opportunity to do and see what they wanted. The facilities at the Anchors Aweigh RV Resort were outstanding and the host could not be more accommodating. The only downside to the rally was that our Region Directors Bob and Bonnie Krieger were unable to find any Alabama NKK Members who were willing to serve as Chapter or State Officers for 2011. It now appears that if someone does not step up to lead the chapter and/or state, the Newmar Kountry Klub may cease to be represented in Alabama after this year.

I understand that Howard Kohser, the Dixie Aires Chapter President, continues his slow recovery from surgery that occurred in April. We wish Howard the best and hope to see him at a rally in the future.

Marge and I are making plans to attend the 25th NKK International Rally in August and have our reservations in hand. We currently do not have a motor home since our Dutch Star is in at Performance RV in Madison, Alabama having its roof replaced. The roof was damaged as a result of a severe hail storm several months ago and, as per Newmar, is the first motor home who is having a roof replacement done other than by the factory. Thus far the work is proceeding nicely and we hope to have the motor home back by the end of June.

Again, please contact the Region Five Directors Bob and Bonnie Krieger if you are interested in serving as an officer in the Dixie Aires Chapter or at the state level in Alabama.

We look forward to seeing all our NKK friends again at the International Rally in August. Stay Safe and enjoy the Fourth of July Holiday.

January Alabama Dixie Aires Chapter Message

2010 PLANS:   As of now, no one has offered to serve as State Directors or as Chapter officers.  Tom and Marge have agreed to stay on temporarily and Howard and Gail have also agreed to do so until our new Regional Directors have a chance to find our replacements.

We are looking at holding a Spring Rally, possibly in April in South Alabama. We “older folks” need a Spring Break too, don’t we?  As soon as we have a definite date and place, we will send out the information and hope everyone will attend.  The future of Dixie Aires will be decided at that time.

TIME TO WINTERIZE       After a relatively mild November, December has arrived with much colder temps and our thoughts turn to protecting our RV’s. The old idea of using the heat of light bulbs, stragically placed  to keep water lines from freezing really works. I haven’t used the pink stuff in years. When on the road, run the generator or furnace or both.

October Alabama Dixie Aires Chapter Message

We have been very busy with our volunteer work but enjoying life in our RV.

I understand the International Rally was a huge success last month and a new member was recruited for Dixie Aires. A big welcome is extended to Neil and Karen Thorne.

Ron and Ginger Fillingham have had a busy summer, spending two weeks in Michigan enjoying their pontoon boat  and grandchildren. Then they attended a three day American Red Cross disaster training in Mobile and also went to Tuscaloosa for Emergency Rescue Vehicle training. Guess we now know who we want around if trouble strikes, right?  Actually, we are very proud of Ron and Ginger on these accomplishments. Congratulations, folks.

We are looking forward with high anticipation to next week and our Grand Old Opry Rally.  We only have a small number signed up but I’m sure we will have a great time regardless.  Also remember our Region 5 Rally is planned for Oct 25 – 29th  in Sevierville, TN.  Mark your calendar now as time flies and you don’t want to miss this Rally.

Remember, if anyone is interested in holding an office in the Dixie Aires for 2010,  or  perhaps applying for the State Director position for Alabama, please let someone know.

Howard Kohser, President (6514)
