DIXIE AIRES NEWSLETTER
Let’s see, where do I start. At least I am back on schedule getting a newsletter out by the first of the month. Still can’t believe I let September slip up on me like it did. We attended the Region 5 Rally in Myrtle Beach, SC last week. What a wonderful time was had by everyone. We did have one day of heavy rain and high winds but otherwise the weather was great. The campground was ideal, the food was excellent, the entertainment was exceptional and the fellowship was the greatest. Our hats off to Doug and Linda Randolph, Region 5 Directors, for planning and hosting a truly great rally. There were 55 units signed up to come but Alabama had one cancellation – Our State Directors, Tom & Marge Kunhart had turbo problems in route and while awaiting parts to arrive received a call that they had a death in the family in Wisconsin (Marge’s brother- in- law), so their plans changed accordingly. We missed them and hope they are safely back home by now. Pat and Wayne Neale and Lyn and Shayne Watwood attended along with us from Dixie Aires. We also met another Alabama owner, Dale & Lou Polka, who live in South Alabama and are members of the Florida chapter in the panhandle. We found them a delightful couple and hope they will join us one day at a Dixie Aires Rally.
Gail and I have stayed in Myrtle Beach so that we can attend the Workhorse Chassis Rally which is also held here in Myrtle Beach next week. I am walking the beach everyday, morning and night. The sun rises are unbelievable.
In route from Birmingham we ran into the Flying J’s 25 gallon limit. Since then we hear that the Atlanta area is running out of gas so it should be interesting trying to get home. Now we are also dealing with the economic situation in Wall Street. Guess we all better enjoy today because we sure don’t know what tomorrow will bring!! We hear that a couple more RV manufacturers have closed recently. The car and RV lots are overflowing. Car dealers are making some good deals – 30 to 50% off the list price. Think RV dealers will ever consider this?? Who knows!!
REUNION RALLY
October is here. Fall arrived and Halloween is coming up, but before then is our planned Reunion Rally at Lakeside Landing Oct. 23 – 26. We have heard from several former members who are going to try to come if only for the Saturday dinner. Some are no longer RVing but like the idea of a reunion. Response from our members has been slow coming in but we hope a lot of you will come. PLEASE let us know if you are coming or not so we can plan the amount of food needed. This is the last planned rally for 2008 so hope you will make every effort to attend. E-mail your RSVP to Gail at gkohser@gmail.com.
Make your own camping reservations at 205 525-5701. $22.50 per night
Rally fee for campout - $20.00 per couple – includes two breakfasts and Saturday Reunion dinner at 2:30. Those only coming for the Satuday dinner, fee is $7.00 per person.
Any questions, please call Howard & Gail at 205 681-8275
FUEL SAVING TIP
Keep your tires properly inflated. Also take all your excess baggage out (especially your wife’s) and your man tools. Wax your RV and travel with a minimum in your water tank and holding tanks. If you know of any other tips, let me know.
REMINDER!!
Gail is awaiting your biographical article for our SPOTLIGHT feature. If you haven’t done one yet, PLEASE, do it today. Everyone seems to enjoy the articles and this is a great way to get to know each other better. We have not received any for two months now. Come on folks, let us hear from YOU. |
