Member Spotlight: This section is intended to introduce new members to our organization or to “re-introduce” members that are already part of our Klub, but maybe haven’t been seen for a while or are unfamiliar to those who joined recently. NOTE: Roger and Peggy Weeks are some of our many members belonging to multiple chapters. They are also members of the SC Palmetto Pals and we want to thank them for belonging to our chapter as well………………Please meet………
Roger & Peggy Weeks
We met in grade school in Battle Creek Michigan and attended school together for nine years. After high school Peggy worked as secretary in the school system and the Kellogg Company. Roger enlisted in the Air Force for four years spending three of the years in Europe. We were married in 1962 and after college Roger worked for General Foods Corp. We were transferred to New York in 1969 and lived in Old Greenwich, CT. for 25 years. Peggy worked in commercial real-estate and property management until we retired in 1994. We had always been power boaters and while we were out east we also raced sail boats for 15 years which was great fun. We were also involved in a local theater group with Peggy doing stage management and on the Board of Directors with Roger working in set construction and lighting.
After retirement in 1994, we moved to our current home in South Carolina and purchased our first Newmar Motor home. That year we attended our first Newmar rally in Pigeon Forge where we met many new friends, including Randy and Anna Jones, who we later helped organize the “Pals” chapter. We were VP’s for two years, Presidents for five years and then became SC State Directors for five years. During this time we attended many Newmar special events rallies and also led many caravans of our own. These caravans included the Canadian Maritimes, cross country trip to Salem Oregon, on up to Vancouver for an Alaskan cruise and a return trip through the Canadian Rockies.
The Klub has given us the opportunity to make so many great friends all across the USA and Canada and see so many great sights in our travels.

Chapter Rallies –
We are still looking for volunteers to host our 2 chapter rallies for 2010. This task can be as simple as hosting a “no-host” rally with little or no work involved or as complicated as a “themed” rally if you have great organizational skills or just love to party !
If you are interested in volunteering or know of a group of people who would like to volunteer as a group, just let any of your officers know.

Comments about the Tampa RV Show . . .
Bob & Bonnie Krieger says. . . . .
We talked to some folks at the show and they were so happy that they broke all attendance records...over 50,000 folks. Also we were told that North Trails ( a Newmar dealer ) had about 17 units sell. There are some still pending. Needless to say, North Trails sales folks were also very happy.
Marian Alton says . . . .
I went to the RV show on Saturday. It’s a big show, takes a whole day to go through.
Parking is $5.00. Tickets are $8.00 for 2 days. Going online and downloading a $1.00 off coupon saves. There were 100's of vendors. It’s a good way to see what's new on the market for 2010. Newmar had an excellent display, lots of coaches, all their models. I think it was the kountry star that now has bunk beds. Great for families. One of the coaches has a garage with options for 2 queen size beds. All in all, it was a good show and I would recommend going to next years event.
Billie Coleman says . . . .
B. L. and I attended the show on Friday, a beautiful day. We ran into Dooder and Gail Jones (former Palmetto Pals) and rambled around the show with them. We got lots of papers, brochures, tips and hints, and a few purchased items, had a good lunch of fries and hamburger (what else?) and really enjoyed the day. The show was a good one in our opinion. We always enjoy attending.
Linda Gardner says. . . .
Hi, George and I attended the Tampa RV supershow. We enjoyed it very much. We met old friends and enjoyed the great entertainment. We came in at the end of the Newmar information, so I don't have announcements. We did hear that they discontinued the Dutch Aire. We felt it was a worthwhile event. It was crowded and we heard there were lots of sales. We also met Bl and Billie Coleman.
Denny & Sheryn Ward says . . . .
We attended the Tampa show along with 4 other coaches. We checked out the many vendors, purchased things we just couldn’t live without, ate at the floating restaurant and of course, toured the many coaches on site. Newmar had an impressive display with lots of new ideas for interiors, exteriors and gorgeous color schemes. There was even time for a side trip to the Columbian restaurant in Yuba City. We cut the show short by only one day when the threat of rain came about. And of course, it was an RV outing, so there was food and rain ! We had a great time !

Member Spotlight:
This section is intended to introduce new members to our organization or to “re-introduce” members that are already part of our Klub, but maybe haven’t been seen for a while or are unfamiliar to those who joined recently.
A special feature this month will be to introduce our 2010 chapter officers elected at our last business meeting in Franklin, NC. MEET THE 2010 OFFICERS !
Our Chapter Treasurer is: Deborah Riley…………..
Hi, we are Dain and Deborah Riley. Deborah is the incoming 2010 Treasurer for the Tarheel Chapter. We both grew up in eastern North Carolina. We both came to Raleigh to go to college, Dain went to NCSU and Deborah went to Meredith College. We meet on a blind date to a NCSU/ECU game in 1972. We graduated college, got married and set up our married life in Raleigh in 1975. Deborah taught elementary school and Dain is a civil engineer. Deborah substitute teaches some now and Dain still works full time ( and will for 4-6 more years). We have had 3 sailboats---21 ft. San Juan, 25 foot Catalina, and a 32 foot Oday. We trailered the San Juan going lots of different places. The Catalina was on Kerr Lake. We used to race some up there and two of Dain's fraternity brothers would always join us. We all felt land locked so we (the three frat brothers) ventured to the coast/river area near Oriental. The three frat brothers found the Oday 32 and together we began those adventures. We would sail down the intra-coastal waterway taking the Oday 32 to Beaufort for the weekend. Then along came children and dogs. Chad (29 now) and Christy (23 now). They both live and work in the Raleigh area. We also had a Siberian Husky--Nicholas for 15 years and now have had another Siberian Husky--Shadow ---going on 14 years and a Beagle--Snoopy 13 years--but we have only had the Beagle for 3 years. So the boats were a part of the past. But camping with Dain's parents in their travel trailer was the way to go. Adventures with Grandma and Grandpa to Myrtle Beach, Gatlinburg, Walt Disney World, Williamsburg, and more. Until 2000---then we ventured and bought our first motorhome---a pre-owned 1995 Winnebago---Adventurer. In 2003 we decided it was time to upgrade and ordered the 2003 Newmar Mountain Aire that we now have. (With the license plate that says Oday 32---we are now sailing down the road.) So we have been "camping" in a tent, 3 sailboats and 2 motorhomes. We do enjoy RVing. We travel with our children, their friends, our pets, our mom's, our friends, and sometimes just the two of us. Along with all the places Dain's parents used to take us that we still frequent, we enjoy off roading in Uhwarrie National Forest and attending Nascar Races. We are also glad to be part of the Tarheel Chapter of the Newmar Kountry Klub and enjoy their adventures. We look forward to seeing all of you at our next rally.
Our Chapter Secretary is: Dennis Ward……………...
Dennis was born and raised in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He is the oldest of 10 children. Dennis is a Navy veteran where he served on the USS Hornet CVS12. He is on his eighth year of retirement from the Elevator Constructors industry where he built, installed and maintained elevators & escalators. Dennis is a NASCAR fan and has previously owned and crewed as many as 3 race cars. Dennis and his wife, Sheryn (see below), moved to North Carolina in May of 2006 to enjoy NASCAR country only to discover that the majority of North Carolinians only talk about football ! By the way, we’re IOWA HAWKEYE fans ! Dennis has a son, a daughter and eight grandchildren.
Our Chapter Vice President is: R. Philip Melvin…………..
Borned and reared in Winston-Salem; college with BS in Business Administration. Married in 1962 resulting in two fine boys who are now in their mid-40's, each with families providing me with two wonderful grandchildren per family. Unfortunately lost my first wife in 1969 due to a car wreck. Majority of my business career was working with small businesses in the financial planning and tax areas. Presently divorced, but looking.
Enjoy people and travel. Done the east to west coast RV trips four times over different routes including one RV trip to Alaska. Always lived on the water either part or full time. Presently live on Lake Norman and enjoy all water activities, etc., when not traveling.
Enjoy the Newmar fellowship and meeting new people as well as exchanging ideas and travel experiences with old friends. Happy Traveling!
Our Chapter President is: Sheryn Ward………….
Sheryn was born and raised in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She is the oldest of 8 children. Sheryn retired approximately 3 ½ years ago from Rockwell Collins, where she programmed computers and designed computer networks for joint collaboration (information sharing) on contracts between Collins and other large aerospace corporations. She and her husband Dennis (see above) moved to North Carolina just 14 days after her first day of retirement. The Wards have been RVing for many years and are currently on their third coach (first Newmar), a 2007 Kountry Star. We are members of FMCA (no chapter affiliation) as well as the Newmar Kountry Klub - Tarheel Chapter. We also go camping in Iowa several times a year with as many as 14 coaches.
Sheryn has a daughter and two sons, along with 4 grandchildren. Together Sheryn and Denny have 5 children, 12 grandchildren and a new grandbaby boy on the way.

Additionally, in support of the International rally, there are plans to create a 25th anniversary quilt. Each state or chapter has been asked to create and supply an 8” x 8” finished quilt block depicting our state or chapter. Each quilt block submitted will be joined with others from other chapters to create this quilt. We are looking for ideas to use as our design for the quilt block, so please put your thinking caps on and create something that represents our chapter or NC. Send your ideas to any of the chapter officers and we’ll select the one that best represents our chapter.
Just a note – The quilt block must be completed and submitted by April 1st so put those thinking caps on early ! and the simpler the design the better !
