Based on the occasional emails that I’ve been receiving, our vice-president, Philip Melvin, is having a good time touring Nova Scotia and New Foundland. Philip is traveling on the Newmar Newfoundland caravan and it sounds like great fun!

Denny and Sheryn Ward traveled from North Carolina to Iowa to visit friends, family and do some camping in their homeland. Our first outing was a July 4th rally where we parked next to a quarry and what looked to be a mile high pile of stand. Our second outing was a little further south where we met up with friends from Minnesota and attended the NASCAR truck race. Our third location was a really small town north of Cedar Rapids, IA where we met new Newmar friends. We met the Region 1 Directors, Gary and Tammy Beeler from Tucson, Arizona. Next came a couple and their dog from South Dakota in their Mountain Aire. It’s amazing who you might run into when you camp in a town barely big enough to be a dot on the map.

New Campground Found –
If you’re looking for a stopover point during your travels through the Midwest, we found a great campground --- Lazy Acres Campground. This campground is in it’s 3rd year of operation and is located midway between Cedar Rapids and Waterloo, Iowa on interstate I-380 (only 41 miles north of I-80). There are large green campsites with both full hookups and power&water hookups, a small pond for fishing, a beach for walking, a miniature golf course, horseshoe pits and the owner will hookup a small train to their lawn tractor to offer rides to the children in the park. You can find the Lazy Acres Campground in Urbana, Iowa.
Heads up for Emergencies….
Just wanted to tell you about an episode that happened just last Sunday at a campground where we were staying…………….
A fellow camper pulled into the campground with his travel trailer. He went to the camp host and paid for 2 weeks worth of camping. He then went back to his travel trailer to hook up the water and electricity. After completing this task, he jumped into his truck and headed off to the grocery store to stock up on groceries. He hadn’t been gone more than 5 minutes when the entire campground witnessed smoke pouring out of the roof of his camper. 9-1-1 was called immediately and the door to his trailer was found to be locked. Someone pulled the LP tanks off and removed the plug from the receptacle. We could only stand and watch as the firemen arrived. The door was pried open with a crowbar and a smoldering refrigerator was carried from inside while water was poured inside from the fire hose. It took about an hour for the owner to return with his groceries.
The moral of the story…..When registering at a campground, please be sure that the campground office has your cell phone number if you are traveling with one.
HAVE A GREAT SUMMER AND BE SURE TO COME AND GO SAFELY !
