Since the last publication, the CA Golden Aires rally was conducted from 11/14 to 11/18. Results of that rally are described below in the CA Aires Chapter write-up. See the calender of events at the back of this issue for contact information for all our CA rallys for 2012.
In 2012, we are going to combine the rallys of the CA 49ers and the CA Bears (Oct 1 - 5 ). In addition, the CA State Rally will be held Sept 24 – 28, immediately before the combined rally. This approach is intended to minimize costs to the members. We have a long state and for people who may want to attend all our rallys, the costs for fuel can mount up. The State Rally will be held in Buellton, CA at the Flying Flags RV Resort and the 49ers/Bears rally will be held in Pismo Beach at the Pismo Creek RV Resort. Details about both rallys will be included in future issues.
On Dec 7, 2011, CA had a special event. It was a luncheon hosted by Penny and Max Nuttall in their home in Hercules CA. Penny did all the planning, organizing, contacting everyone by phone, cooking, etc. Sue and I could not attend due to other problems. Penny thought that since it was going to be a long time before a rally was held in the northern area, that we should at least have a luncheon in the area sometime in 2011. Twenty eight people from the Golden Bears and the Forty Niners chapters attended and had a great time. See photos below. Penny and Max said it was nice to spend more time with our Newmar family. Philip and Carman Caspersen have offered to host the next one in February or March. We are hoping other members will offer to host one at any venue they choose. It can be at their home, a park or at a restaurant.

CALIFORNIA GOLDEN AIRES Posted 12/31/11 |
We had a great time at our last rally in Temecula! Everyone had lots of free time to explore the resort, the town and Temecula Valley. Our scavenger hunt led us to some of the more popular sites. Seven couples completed the hunt and most scored 100%.
Duane Sanders, owner of RV Flush, presented an informative seminar on RV Sanitation Systems. Based in Riverside, Duane is an expert in resolving all sorts of problems with RV sewer systems. He alerted us as to what might be happening and accumulating inside our holding tanks!
There were six entries in our first-ever Chili-Cook-off. Everybody had an opportunity to taste each of the entries and vote for the “Peoples Choice Award”. Judge Jim and Judge Ursie were blind-folded and tasted each chili for the “Grand Prize Award”. Karen Peoples won in both categories. Chef Nick Peoples baked a batch of huge bacon-wrapped jalapeño “poppers” for all to enjoy while we tasted the chilis. Those with weaker stomachs were able to survive on hot dogs with, or without, chili toppings.
Most of us enjoyed the luncheon buffet and Jingle Bell Rock Holiday show at the Lawrence Welk Theatre. The show featured The Alley Cats, an a cappella Doo-Wop quartet. They entertained us with Christmas carols and Doo-Wop classics along with their zany improvisational comedy.
We held both a Mexican Train tournament (won by Howard Podrup) and a Hand & Foot Tournament (won by Jean Pease).
Our next Chapter Rally will be held April 23-27 at the Valencia Travel Village in Castaic --- near the Six Flags Magic Mountain amusement park.
We will tour the Reagan Library in Simi Valley. We also will also have a special tour of The Nethercutt Collections in Sylmar. This unique museum features a collection of over 250 rare automobiles, mechanical musical instruments, a hood ornament collection, and numerous other items.
Your cost will be a mere $230/couple or $205/single. The reservation deadline is March 22. If you have any questions or wish to reserve your space, please call us now!

When you read this, we will have completed all of the CA rallies for 2011. As of this writing, the CA Golden Aires rally has yet to happen which will run from 11/14 to 11/18. Results of that rally will be in the next issue. See the 49ers and the Aires Chapter write-ups below. See the calendar of events at the back of this issue for contact information for all rallies.
We have new presidents of the CA 49ers Chapter. They are Harvey and Marilyn Bakker. The new Sec/Treasurers for the 49ers are Bob and Lee Johnson. We are still looking for new presidents for the CA Bears Chapter.
Also, in 2012, we are going to combine the rallies of the CA 49ers and the CA Bears (first week of October). In addition, the CA State Rally will be held immediately before the combined rally. This approach is intended to minimize costs to the members. We have a long state and for people who may want to attend all our rallies, the costs for fuel can mount up.

CALIFORNIA 49ERS CHAPTER Posted 12/01/11
The CA 49ers' Rally was held Sept 19 - 23rd at the Laguna Seca Recreation Area with seventeen rigs attending. Attendees said that it was a very enjoyable rally!!! Amidst the beautiful Monterey Coast hillsides we could see the action on the Mazda Laguna Seca Raceway just down the hill from our sites. Racing car enthusiasts enjoyed going down to the Raceway to watch the drivers' practice runs.
A special treat was the tour of the Monterey Bay Aquarium and later many of the folks enjoyed the good eats in Monterey. Some drove the coast to Carmel and Pacific Grove. Shopping in Monterey is always a treat. The Red Hat Ladies all enjoyed a delicious lunch at the John Steinbeck house in Salinas. After the lunch a docent had stories to tell of John Steinbeck and his family and later we could tour the house. John started writing his novels in that house and wrote many stories of life in the Salinas Valley.
This was our last rally as Presidents. We want to thank everyone for all their support these past four years, especially our Sec'y/Treas., Richard and Audrey Stewart and our V. Presidents, Phil and Carmen Caspersen. We had good times planning and putting on the rallies. Harvey and Marilyn Bakker are the new Presidents of the CA 49ers. Bob and Lee Johnson are the new Sec'y/Treas. We know they will do a super job keeping the CA 49ers up and running.
Happy Travels,

CALIFORNIA GOLDEN AIRES CHAPTER Posted 12/01/11
Our next Golden Aires Chapter Rally will be held April 23-27, 2012 at the Valencia Travel Village in Castaic --- near Magic Mountain just north of Los Angeles. In addition to our usual rally activities, we have lined up two great tours for our enjoyment. Bev and I are really looking forward to visiting the Reagan Library in Simi Valley. It’s been one of those places that we’ve driven by and said, “We should go there sometime.”
You’ve probably never heard about The Nethercutt Collections. We hadn’t either, but Steve & Ursie Fisher had! We are going there on April 26. The museum is open to the public, BUT the collection can only be viewed by appointment. You can view some of the items that we will be seeing on their website http://nethercuttcollection.org. This is an unbelievable collection of old cars, musical instruments, a 1937 steam locomotive, a 1912 Pullman Private Car, and numerous other items. We have not determined the pricing at the time of this writing.
We expect to have an opportunity to meet Tom Lindstrom, our new Southern California Newmar Dealer. He is planning on bringing a couple of new rigs for us to see.
The reservation deadline is March 22, 2012. If you have any questions or wish to reserve your space, please contact us now at coyotemeyer@gmail.com or 760-533-4116.

CA GOLDEN BEARS & CA 49ERS CHAPTERS Posted 10/23/11
|
Since the CA Golden Bears and the Forty Niners chapters of the Newmar Kountry Klub will not be having a rally until the fall of 2012, we decided to try to have a lunch every other month to keep in touch with these very special friends.
The first one will be at Max and Penny Nuttall's house on Wednesday, December 7, 2011 at 12:00 Noon. There will be a small cost for the food this time. Drinks will be provided. Others may choose a pot luck or to go out for lunch for future luncheons. Let us know what you think about having these lunches.

Sue and I attended the NKK International Rally at Essex Junction, VT then went to Canada to attend the Newfoundland Caravan with 19 other rigs. When that was complete we drove to Montana to visit my home town. We enjoyed the trip very much and were gone from home for three months to the day.
By the time you read this, the CA 49er's Rally for 2011 will have been held Sept. 19 - 23rd at the Laguna Seca Recreation area. Results of that rally will be included in the next issue. The only remaining rally for California in 2011 is the CA Golden Aires rally from 11/14 to 11/18. Please mark your calendars and plan to attend See the Aires Chapter write-up for more details. Also, remember that even though you may miss the published sign-up cutoff dates and then decide you would like to attend, call the host and he may be able to work with the RV Park to include you. See the calender of events at the back of this issue for contact information for all rallies. CALIFORNIA GOLDEN AIRES CHAPTER Posted 10/1/11
This was a great summer to travel in Alaska and western Canada. We had great weather and great company with some new (and some old) Newmar friends during and after the Caravan. Al & Marilyn Harms were great to work with, and they will be excellent wagon masters next summer. Plan now to join them on this fun and exciting adventure in 2012.
As we write this article (in mid-August), we are enjoying the beautiful Olympic Peninsula in Washington. We are gradually heading towards Albuquerque and the Balloon Fiesta before we return to southern California this fall.
The next Golden Aires Chapter Rally will be held November 14-18 at the Pechanga RV Resort & Casino in Temecula. The Temecula Valley is home to many fine wineries. The agenda includes: four breakfasts, a lunch, and two dinners. One dinner will be a chili cook-off contest which you will be encouraged to enter.
We will have our usual golf tournament, a Red Hat activity, and game nights. We hope to have a couple of surprise games to challenge your brains. Pechanga’s casino offers an opportunity for round-the-clock gaming. Optional (extra-cost) events include a buffet luncheon and matinee performance of the Jingle Bell Rock Holiday Show at the Lawrence Welk Theatre ($62/person) and a dinner out. Your cost is only $196 per rig for couples and $175 for singles.
It’s not too late to sign-up, but the reservation deadline is October 14. Call now! Our Vice President and Rally Co-hosts, Steve and Ursie Fisher are awaiting your call. You can reach them at home (714-996-6897) or cell (714-488-8444) or via email to ursiefisher@Yahoo.com .
We sure hope that you can attend. Make checks payable to California Golden Aires and mail your full payment with a disclaimer form to, Steve Fisher, 16962 Nightingale Lane, Yorba Linda, CA 92886. If you have any questions, please call Steve.

CALIFORNIA STATE NEWS Posted 06/24/11
We have now completed two of the four California Rallys for 2011. The two rallys were the Golden Bears rally held in Chowchilla from 3/27 to 3/31 and the CA State Rally held in Chula Vista 5/8 to 5/12. The two remaining rallys are the CA 49ers which will be from 9/19 to 9/23 and the CA Golden Aires rally from 11/14 to 11/18. Please mark your calendars and plan to attend See the 49ers and Bears Chapter write-ups below for more details. Our CA State Rally at Chula Vista , although not large, was a success according to most of the attendees. It was interesting to note that four couples who said they were planning on attending, could not because they were having, or just had, medical procedures done at the time. There also were four other stalwarts who were off on a trip. Our final count was 16 rigs. We had three couples who were from out of state; Harold & Mary Ann Starr (AZ), Jim & Patti Timm (NV) and Mark & Lauren Meade (AZ). We certainly appreciate their support!
We scheduled an ample amount of free time during the rally because there are so many things to see in the San Diego area. Some toured the Midway Aircraft Carrier while others toured the Chula Vista Nature Center. Others drove over to Coronado Island for lunch. A number of us took the trolley past downtown and on to Old Town where we had a Mexican lunch. Functions on site included a Beanbag Baseball game where the men soundly defeated the women, amidst much shouting and rivalry, which was fun (see photo below). There was a Red Hat Luncheon which included a Crafts class where the ladies decorated small plates in an interesting way and while this was going on, the men went off by themselves and had pizza for lunch. On Wednesday, Willie Calvert coordinated a round of golf at a nearby course. In the evenings we played the Hand & Foot card game and Mexican Train. The last evening we had the Hand & Foot tournament and the final Mexican Train game. Prizes were given to the winners. We had a drawing to give out other prizes, one being an afghan crocheted by Sue Conway. Packages of golf balls were given to the golfing winners. We had a breakfast each morning, two catered dinners, and for the third dinner we went down to the Galley Restaurant (about two blocks away) where everyone appeared to have a good time.

CALIFORNIA GOLDEN BEARS CHAPTER Posted 06/24/11
Well this is the first time we have put on a spring rally. With all the rain we had been having we were skeptical. After weeks & weeks of rain the sun appeared on the first day and stayed with us for four glorious days. Amazing, it was like a miracle.
The rally was held at the Lakes RV & Golf Resort in Chowchilla, CA March 27th to the 31st. A beautiful place with a grand clubhouse and excellent golf course. We had wonderful meals planned by Penny & Max Nuttall and thank you to Judy & Larry Faller for being our co-hosts. I just can't emphasize enough the importance of all those involved in putting this rally together. Without all of the members help we wouldn't be able to do it. Thank you all!
Besides playing golf, we toured a Fossil Discovery Center in Madera. We also had a "day on your own" so some members went to Yosemite for the day and a group of us took an Amtrak train to Sacramento to have lunch and tour the Railroad Museum. We also managed to have an Easter Egg and Easter Hat decorating contest which was pretty messy but a lot of fun. Prizes were given for the “best” designs. See the photo below.
For the rally in 2012 we will be combining our rally with the California 49er's for a joint rally. It will take place in October, dates and place TBD.
Again I want to thank all the members for their time and help in preparing, serving and cleaning up after meals and activities. You guys are the BEST !

The CA 49er's Rally for 2011 will be held Sept. 19 - 23rd at the Laguna Seca Recreation area. This RV Park is located on Hwy 68 halfway between Monterey and Salinas. One day is set aside to explore the Monterey/Carmel area. Besides the Monterey Bay Aquarium, there's Seventeen Mile Dr. which goes from Pacific Grove into Carmel with outstanding views and stops along the way. South of Carmel is Point Lobos State Park. If you want to do some apple picking, Gzidich Farms, which is Southeast of Watsonville, is a popular "pick your own apples" farm. Another day is set aside for golf.
For the Red Hat Ladies Luncheon, we will be going to the Steinbeck House in Salinas for lunch and tour of the home of John Steinbeck. Men will have a pizza lunch in the Clubhouse at the same time. The Ladies Luncheon and Men's Pizza are included in your rally fee. We will provide four breakfasts and 2 dinners. Another evening will be a potluck with an Open Grill.
The RV park sits on a hilltop over-looking the Mazda Laguna Seca Race Track and the outstanding hills of Monterey County. Each site has 30 amp. service and water. There is a dump station located close by.
