Register for the 2008 International Rally on or before Friday, April 18, 2008, and your Klub number will be entered into the “KLUB’S RALLY FEE REFUND DRAWING”. During Opening Ceremonies we will draw 7 Klub Member numbers. If you are one of the 7 lucky Klub numbers drawn, your rally fee will be refunded to you after the rally.

International Rally Cancellation Policy
Cancellations due to emergencies will be accepted up to Friday, June 20, 2008. Requests must be submitted in writing either by mail, e-mail to armast@newmarcorp.com or by fax (574)773-5130. A refund will be made, less $25.00 per person cancellation fee. Any tour or optional activities cancelled after May 23, 2008 will not be refunded unless a replacement can be found.  Cancellations received as of June 21, 2008 will receive no refund.  Please Note: Many non-refundable financial commitments and deposits are made well in advance of the rally. These commitments make a cancellation policy a necessity.

2008 Optional Sightseeing Tours
 

The Newmar Kountry Klub has engaged Sue Patton Tours, Inc. to arrange this year’s sightseeing tour program. They know the history and local culture of Du Quoin and the surrounding area, and have been conducting tours for many years. They have put together several tours for you to choose from. Each tour will have an escort to ensure you have the most knowledgeable guide available.  All tours must be booked and paid for at the same time as you register for the International Rally.  Again, this year, the tours are limited by passenger bus availability, and will be booked on a first come basis. Expect some nice surprises during your trip and don’t forget your camera!
NOTE: Buses DO NOT have handicap lift.


TOUR #1  ST. LOUIS TREASURES
Departure:  Sunday, June 22 at 8:00am / Return to approx. 5:30pm
Meet your step-on guide at Old Cathedral in St Louis. Enjoy a drive along the Historical St. Louis waterfront as your guide enlightens you about the area. Visit the Old Cathedral, the oldest one west of the Mississippi River, then take a short walk to the famous Gateway Arch.  Ride the tram to the top of the arch for a great view of the surrounding area, OR view a movie at the IMAX. You choose which you will do. Visit the Arch Museum and gift shop afterward. Enjoy a delicious lunch at Hannegan’s Restaurant. The dining room is a replica of the U.S. Senate Dining Room since Hannegan was a big Democratic Party boss and Roosevelt and Truman confidante. Visit the Old St. Louis Courthouse, site of famous trials such as the Dred Scott Slavery Case. Finally, move on to visit Anheuser-Busch to see the famous Clydesdales in their original 1885 stable. We return our step-on guide to the Old Cathedral and depart St Louis. Tour Price $76.00 per person includes modern motorcoach transportation, all admissions fees, noon meal, and all tips for noon meal, driver, step-on guide, and escort.


TOUR #2  VISIT CHESTER “HOME OF POPEYE” AND POINTS OF INTEREST IN WESTERN ILLINOIS
Departure:  Sunday, June 22 at 8:00am / Return approx. 5:00pm
Drive thru Randolph County, where Illinois began with the first capital being Kaskaskia. Hear how Kaskaskia became an island and can only be reached from Missouri. Visit the Pierre Menard Home and museum. Drive to Ft. Kaskaskia State Park and learn about the French history of the area. Next, we arrive in Chester and stop at Popeye’s Statue”.   Visit Randolph County Museum before eating a sit-down meal at the Cohen House. After eating, we will stop at the Spinach Can Collectibles Store & Museum and then head to the city park where Popeye and Ollie cutouts are set up. On our return to DuQuoin, we will drive slowly past the Covered Bridge which crosses St. Mary’s River. Tour price $52.00 per person includes modern motorcoach transportation, all admission fees, noon meal, and all tips for noon meal, escort, driver, and step-on guide and is fully escorted.


TOUR #3  VISIT ALTON & ELSAH, THE SMALL VILLAGE THAT TIME FORGOT
Departure:  Sunday, June 22 at 7:30am / Return approx. 5:30pm
Enjoy scenery of Southern Illinois on your way to Alton, one of America’s great river towns.  It is filled with historic homes and figures, as well as local legends. Learn the history dating back to the 1600’s. See the Lovejoy Monument, taller than any other in Illinois, and the life-sized statue of Robert Wadlow, noted as the tallest man in history. Travel along the “Meeting of the Great Rivers National Scenic Byway”, formerly called the Great River Road, and voted one of the Seven Wonders of Illinois, to Piasa Country. See the massive painting of the legendary bird feared by Native Americans hundreds of years ago. It was first discovered by Father Jacques Marquette in 1673. Then, travel on to Elsah, often referred to as the “Village Where Time Stood Still”.  Our guide will take you on a leisurely walking tour of this unique town (motorcoaches are not permitted in town). Tour Principia College, the only Christian Scientist College in the world. Enjoy a noon meal in Elsah at a charming village restaurant.  Tour price $75.00 per person includes modern motorcoach, noon meal, admission fees, tips for meal, escort, driver, and step-on guide. 


TOUR #4  CAPE GIRARDEAU, MISSOURI
Departure:  Sunday, June 22 at 7:45am / Return approx. 5:00pm
Cape Girardeau, the “City of the Roses”, is situated on a hillside along the banks of the Mississippi River. Our first stop is at My Daddy’s Cheesecake for a tasty morning treat of cheesecake and coffee while you enjoy viewing part of the manufacturing process. Then it is on to the Convention & Visitor’s Bureau where you will receive a welcome bag and meet a step-on guide for an hour tour of historic downtown and the river area. See the Mississippi River Tales Mural on the downtown flood wall and the Missouri Wall of Fame Mural showing 46 famous people either born in Missouri or who achieved fame while living in the State. At noon, enjoy a delicious meal in downtown Cape Girardeau,  then depart for the Trail of Tears State Park where you will learn about the forced march of over 16,000 Cherokee Indians in 1838. The Bushyhead Memorial located in the park is a tribute to between 3000-4000 Cherokee Indians who died on the trail. Hear Chief Paul White Eagle, a Cherokee storyteller, give an interesting talk and demonstration. Tour price $66.00 per person includes modern motorcoach transportation, noon meal, admission fees, tips for meals, escort, driver, and step-on guide. 


TOUR #5  SAINTE GENEVIEVE, A “FRENCH COLONIAL VILLAGE”
Departure: Monday, June 23 at 8:00am / Return approx. 5:00pm
Travel through southern Illinois past the St Mary’s River Covered Bridge built in 1877. Cross the Mississippi River on the Chester Bridge, seen in a cameo role of 1967 movie “In the Heat of the Night”. Enjoy the charm of this “Old World Village” as you visit “Missouri’s Oldest Town”, Historic Sainte Genevieve. See the narrow streets and fenced gardens around some of the most significant 18th century architecture in the nation. Well-preserved early French structures provide a glimpse into the pioneer spirit of the earliest settlers. Visit the Great River Road Interpretive Center where you watch a short video prior to a drive-around tour as your step-on guide narrates. Tour the Bolduc House, built in 1770 and regarded as the first most authentically restored Creole House.  At the Felix Valle State Historic Site, see the Federal-style limestone house built in 1818. Arrive at the Old Brick House, the oldest house west of the Mississippi River and enjoy a noon meal in this quaint building. After lunch, go downtown to browse and shop in assorted antique and gift shops. Tour Price $54.00 per person includes modern motorcoach transportation, admission fees, noon meal, tips for meal, escort, driver, and step-on guide. 


TOUR #6  ST. LOUIS ORIGINAL CULINARY DELIGHTS
Departure: Monday, June 23 at 8:00am / Return approx. 5:30pm
This trip will appeal to your taste buds as we nibble our way around St. Louis with our guide, Linda Koenig. This tour is a little different because we don’t furnish your lunch.  There is so much to choose from, we let you decide and make the purchases that you wish. Treat yourself and eat them on the trip or take some back with you. Our first stop is McArthur’s Bakery, one of the largest wedding cake businesses. They produce a full line of bakery items, and we may get to watch their 8 specialists decorate their wedding cakes. Next stop is Chocolate, Chocolate, Chocolate, manufacturers of premium handmade chocolates. From there, we go to Penzey’s Spices where you can purchase top quality spices. At Whole Foods Market in Brentwood Square, you will find an open-air market feel in an all-inclusive shopping experience. Here you can purchase a drink, sandwich, salad, or other mouth watering deli items for lunch. You will find hearth baked breads, tantalizing pastries, fresh roasted coffee and artisan cheeses. You will also find the best fresh produce available here. From there, we go to Trader Joe’s to purchase popular and unusual specialty items. Out last stop will be Ted Drewes, a favorite St. Louis landmark since 1929. It’s an ice cream style stand where you can purchase from an assortment of small cones to their famous “concretes”. Tour Price $57.00 per person includes modern motorcoach transportation, tips for escort, driver, and step-on guide.

TOUR # 7 CRUISE ON MISSISSIPPI RIVER - MONDAY SOLD OUT – NOW BOOKING THURSDAY, JUNE 26
Departure: Monday, June 23 at 7:15am / Return approx. 5:45pm
Enjoy the scenery of southern Illinois as you travel to an area discovered in 1673 which stands at the confluence of 3 major rivers – the Mississippi, Illinois, and Missouri.  Drive through Alton and along the Meeting of the Great Rivers National Scenic Byway – just voted one of the Seven Wonders of Illinois.  At Grafton Harbor Marina board the “Huron” a 54 foot pontoon boat for a 1-1/2 hour narrated scenic cruise on the Mississippi River. See the towering bluffs, barge traffic, and hear a commentary on local history and legends. Following the cruise we board our bus in Grafton and go to Pere Marquette State Park to enjoy a delicious family-style noon meal at the lodge. The lodge was built in the 1930’s.Its most prominent feature is the 700 ton fireplace which soars to a roof height of 50 feet. After lunch, driving south along the river, we will see the massive painting of the Piasa Bird, a mythical creature that Native Americans feared hundreds of years ago.  Visit the state-of-the art National Great Rivers Museum that tells the story of life on the Mississippi River. See the best view of Alton and the Mississippi from 8 stories in the air atop the Melvin Price Locks and Dam. Tour price $87.00 per person includes modern motorcoach transportation, noon meal, admission fees, and tips for meal, escort, driver, and step-on guide.  NOTE:  THIS TOUR REQUIRES SOME WALKING UPHILL AND DOWNHILL TO GET ON AND OFF THE BOAT. 


TOUR # 8  SCOTT AIR FORCE BASE AND BOEING PROLOGUE ROOM - " TOUR CANCELLED AS OF 2-7-08"
Departure: Tuesday, June 24 at 7:20am / Return approx. 6:00pm
Your escort will tell you about the area before we arrive at Scott Air Force Base. The complex now occupies almost 4000 acres with 900 buildings and has nearly 6500 military and 3500 civilians that work here. Upon arrival at the gate, military personnel will board our bus and we will be checked by security. A member of the Air Force stationed at the base will be our step-on guide and during our tour will point out different items of interest and explain how the military and base operate. We will be treated to two interesting demonstrations. For example, Weather Squadron, Trained dogs, Hammer Ace and Parachute demo, AFCA Museum and others. These demonstrations vary and are at the discretion of base personnel. Feast on a delicious meal served at our tables in Scott Dining Club (formerly the Officers Club).  After lunch, depart for Boeing (formerly McDonnell Douglas) in St. Louis for our next interesting tour of the day. View a video before taking a guided tour of their Prologue Room. It has an air and space exhibit that tells a panoramic story of nearly a century of aviation progress, from biplanes to space travel. See large scale models of Sky Lab, the Space Shuttle, Mercury and Gemini Spacecraft. You can also see large scale models of some of today’s military aircraft including the Eagle, Hornet, Apache and a large Air Force One, as well as rockets, missiles, and commercial jetliners. Tour Price $60.00 per person includes modern motorcoach transportation, admission fee, noon meal, tips for meal, escort, driver, and step-on guide.  NOTE:  At Scott Air Force Base there will be some walking and stair climbing.  For safety reasons, all participants must be at least 12 years old. NO CAMERA’S ALLOWED AT SCOTT AIR FORCE BASE Please make sure you have your photo ID with you for a security check.  Since this is a military base, this trip is always TENTATIVE due to world and national conditions that may occur.
