Tour #1 - The National WW I Museum at Liberty Memorial & The Treasures of the Steamboat Arabia

Date: Sat, Sept 30 or Sun, Oct 1 - Departure 7:45am return approx. 4:30pm.

The new National WW I Museum is nothing short of outstanding and is a “must see”! It is a museum dedicated to collecting, preserving and interpreting the history of and artifacts associated with the First World War. The exhibits include posters, photographs, uniforms, films, audio broadcasts to airplanes, artillery, weaponry, cannons, caissons and much more. On the way to the museum we’ll discuss WW I history, read from doughboys’ diaries and sing a few WW I era songs such as “Over There”. Once inside the museum there are numerous places to sit. When you are finished looking, just stop by the museum’s Canteen Restaurant which features reasonably priced sandwiches, etc. located next to the gift shop. From here we’ll travel over to another one of a kind museums! The Arabia Steamboat sank on the dangerous Missouri River in 1856 with a 200 ton cargo, all frontier supplies and personal belongings. Your guided tour includes learning about the excavation effort, seeing a working preservation lab, walking on the full size reproduction of the main deck along with the original 6 ton stern and paddlewheel. This is often called the “best museum in Kansas City”!

Price per person $90.00 Includes admission to both museums, luxury motor coach with restroom on board, professional driver, tour guide and gratuities.

Tour #2 - The 1836 Missouri State Penitentiary, Missouri’s State Capitol and More

Date: Sat, Sept 30 - Departure 7:45am return approx. 4:30pm.

Welcome to Jefferson City, the state capitol of Missouri! Years before Alcatraz was built, this Missouri prison was the largest one in the United States. Housing 5200 inmates at its peak, it was home to many unsavory characters such as Pretty Boy Floyd and Sonny Liston. With retired guards acting as our guides, we’ll tour two large cell blocks and hear many legends and stories from the prison guards who worked here until the prison closed in 2004. A tour of the gas chamber is also included, but not required to experience. A delicious lunch will be included at a local restaurant. A tour of the 1839 Lohman’s Building is included which highlights Jefferson City history beginning with it former use as a commercial warehouse for Missouri River steamboats unloading their cargo. A narrated guided tour of the beautiful Missouri State Capitol follows with its large collection of artifacts that interpret Missouri’s natural and cultural heritage. A final stop before leaving for home will be at Central Dairy for your choice of an included Ice cream cone or cup from many delicious flavors!

Price Per person $101.00 Includes admission to all of the above attractions, luxury motor coach with restroom on board, lunch, professional driver, tour guide and gratuities.

Tour #3 - The Harry S. Truman Presidential Library and the National Frontier Trails Museum

Date: Sat, Sept 30 - Departure 7:45am return approx. 4:30pm.

Harry Truman always called Independence “the greatest town in the United States”! This excellent tour takes us to the Harry S. Truman Presidential Library with its many and artifacts including the courtyard burial site of Harry and Bess Truman, their daughter Margaret and son-in-law Clifton Daniel. A brief narrated drive through Independence will take us past the Truman Home (not open to large groups) and the famous statue of Truman walking around the Independence Town Square. After our catered lunch at the National Trails Museum we’ll enjoy an excellent tour of the facilities learning about the Santa Fe, Oregon and other great trails that passed through Independence and helped settle the West. This is a beautiful new museum with a restored train depot just outside also filled with artifacts you’ll want to see. Our final stop will be at the 1859 Jail, Marshal’s Home and Museum. This restored jail held such notorious characters as Frank James, William Quantrill and the Youngers. Also in the complex are the marshal’s house, a small local history museum and a one-room schoolhouse.

This fun trip begins with a visit and tour of the world famous Warm Springs Ranch which serves as the breeding operation and home to over 100 Clydesdale horses, owned by Budweiser! You’ll meet the horses and colts, see the luxurious trailers they ride on to parades and learn how these cherished “gentle giants” are cared for, trained and selected for parades. The behind the scenes tour conducted by Warm Springs staff is mostly inside, all paved, level and ADA accessible. Your included picnic lunch will be at the local, historic KATY train depot, located next to the new River Rails and Trails Museum which among other exhibits features the Mitchell Automobiles.
