2017 Tampa Supershow Highlights
Over the years, I have stated that you can tell it is Super Show time because of the weather. It is always cold, windy, and rainy. Not this time. With the temperatures in the eighties almost every day and no rain, the show exceeded all attendance records. The report is that over 70,000 people attended. It would have been interesting to see what the numbers would have been had the cold front with high winds not come in early on Sunday, keeping the attendance down for that day. Before opening on Wednesday, traffic was backed up on Martin Luther King Blvd. and stayed that way until after 2 PM. The US 301 Gate closed due to no parking space.
As for the Newmar Rally, held in conjunction with the show, we had 180 coaches registered. Luckily, our group came in on Tuesday with minimal traffic and parking went well with our own Newmar parking team!
For the first time, we had a fellowship time with finger foods under the tent on Wednesday afternoon. Over 75 attended and as usual the food was great. Several Chapters enjoyed the use of the tent for Klub socials. Of course, we had coffee and donuts each morning in the tent also.
On Thursday morning, we had a session with the Newmar executives. Thanks to those executives for taking time to visit with the Klub members. Thanks to Farm & City Insurance we all enjoyed an Ice Cream Social on Thursday afternoon. Several seminars were held under the tent. Thanks to Sky Med for providing Sub Sandwiches and chips on Friday. Over 150 people attended this event.
The Klub Store was open two days. We had the full line of Klub clothing and merchandise on display and many updated their Klub wardrobes. Boxes of jackets were packed for sale, however; 80 degree temperatures foiled that. Thank you, Linda Feece, Klub Coordinator, for all your help. Wanda & I could not have done this event without your help and dedication to the Klub.
Thanks to North Trails for providing the tent for our use. We would be lost without the support given by them and Newmar. I know that many had service work performed by Newmar Technicians. Thank you Newmar for providing this to the Klub Rally.
North Trails had a great display of Newmar units which many of us toured, dreamed about and some even purchased or ordered. We had several volunteers working in the display area sharing about the Klub to visitors and signed up 10 new members to the Klub.
Other than the brief loss of electric power due to generator failure I believe all that attended had a great time and even that couldn’t spoil a beautiful week.
This rally, as with all rallies, depend on volunteers. I cannot say thanks enough to the volunteers that came a week early to layout parking and prepare for the rally. For those that came on Monday to help with parking and registration. For those that just pitched in without having been asked… THANK YOU, THANK YOU and THANK YOU TO ALL!
As this is an annual event we will have more info on the 2018 Tampa Supershow rally later this year. Dates will be January 16-21, 2018.
